***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Won't do a thing for fleas and contrary to popular opinion it won't help with lice on birds either.
Give him a bath and let him soak in the shampoo for about 10 minutes to drown the fleas. The problem is treating the environment.
i just got the lil fella today and where he came from they dont have free ranging chickens. My birds sure do a good job on keeping the pest down!

So tried to put the young hen in with the other group and the roo was already being real rough with her so i took her back out. had her head pushed in the fence and poor thing cut her lil pea comb. think im a let her get a bit bigger first.

dose any one know if i dust butters( the kitten) with D.E. will it kill and prevent fleas? Gave the poor thing probly the biggest bath its ever seen then used tweezers to get as many fleas off as possible. Still to young for the treatments.
I usually bath them 3-4 times a day if they are that bad. if you use dawn it helps.

ty for all the tips and tricks lil thing had a bath with dawn i lathered him there different times then had to use twizeers to remove the rest. kitty is sleeping now so must be feeling better after all that.

here is a thought, get another young hen that is more passive, keep them together for a week or so, so she has a buddy to be integrated with, then have them in a seperate area where the others can see them for a week or so, the integrate the two to the main flock...

They don't look very young but after about 3 months old I don't think you can tell. There's loose Guineas all over around here. I do remember that sign and the purple one showed up awhile after that. The 12 yr old Guinea has always stayed between here and my mom's place at the dead end of the road. I have no idea why he never wandered. He was a lone male for all that time. I think back on it now and realize it was so sad seeing him trudging up the side of the road coming home from the dead end. He must have been lonely. Well he ain't lonely now. He's got friends showing up to party, eat his food and beat up his chickens from miles away lol

Oh, Laura! If you'd like I'll buy that Little Giant back from you for the same price. Now that I know better what I'm doing with temp and humidity I think it'll make a great hatcher.
Whenever you're done hatching with it, if you want to sell it back holler at me.

I've had one that was beyond infested. I found him on the side of the road, I washed him 3-4 times a day w/ dawn for about a week before they all disapeared. Poor critter hated it.

The 12 I still have are noticeably smaller than my 5 full growns, not by much, but you can tell they're young. I thought they might reappear eventually, but it's been... at least 3 weeks, so I guess they ain't comin back. Aw, I'm glad he's got buddies. My 12 young ones sometimes visit the road, but they keep coming back. Let's hope it stays that way.

Sure, I think I've decided I'm going to let mine go broody when I want more. Too much work! Just PM me when you want to get it.

Cathie, was it you that had chicks pipping 2 days early? One of my Bantam Ameraucanas is pipped this morning and hatch day isn't for 2 days. Does anyone know-does that hurt anything pipping so soon and why does it happen? Do some chicks just mature sooner (ya know-like girls mature faster than boys

). My temp has been right at 100 degrees steady the whole time.

Mine hatched on a Tuesday but my calendar said they weren't due till Friday. They seem perfectly healthy. I had them under a setting hen though, not in an incubator, if this is relevant.
