***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Morning, Everyone
caf.gif
I'm in for a second cup of coffee. Looks nice outside today.

Kass - Your eggs went into the incubator around noon yesterday. You can start marking your calendar. I'll send you and update on day 10 after candling.
Joe - Thanks for the eggs. I look forward to a varied and colorful hatch : )

MacGuyver - Your roo is anxious to be out of quarantine. He gives me "the look" every time I feed, water, or visit with him. I know he will love his ladies. They are among my best layers, and it will be nice to feel like the Dominique group is once more complete. Thank you so much for bringing him on Saturday.

T-Shirt info for those who pre-ordered: The manager produced the shirts on Monday. The color of the text was supposed to be black on red or red on black, but it looked more like gray on red and mauve on black, so neither was easy to read. This and the missed delivery date of last Friday and the manager's decision not to reduce the price led to a long silence. In the end, I left the shop without the shirts. The manager said she understood my complaints, but policy kept her from negotiating after the initial order was placed.

I hear roosters calling. I'd better get back out there and finish tending the last few pens. Have a great day : )
Wow policy that leaves customers unhappy? They should have been highly apologetic and begging forgiveness so they might get repeat business.

Welp, looks like whatever ate my turkey also got one of my small guineas. Just a tuft of feathers by the driveway, nothing else. This is probably why my banty roo went missing last week too. Got to figure out what it is and get it gone before it eats someone else. I moved all three turkeys to a small coop, they are cramped, but at least they are safe.

mitzy- love the pics thanks did the araucana girls keep laying ?? the brown red will be the one laying the nice blue egg

kass- how is the ""?"" big blue/splash chick doing ?

okladoo- i hope your trip all whent safe havent seen you post in a wile
Getting bigger and fiestier by the day!!!

The littlest ones the "?" splash, and houdans and small araucana were slow about learning to eat the dubias, but they finally have it down now, and have discovered squash innards and cucumbers, which they love as much as the dubias. And both small araucanas are doing well.

Hi everyone good evening just got done with all the feeding. our little small dog found a baby cottontail day before yesterday and it's skint it's side on the chain-link fence. I cleaned the scrape and then put medicine on it. It is now in one of my chick brooders. And then we found a abandoned stray kitten. I have animals adopting me. Lol

Mommapoppybee I cried with you when I read your post about your broken eggs. Pretty chicks let me know if you need any help with your coop. TonyO it was nice to meet you in person. Oh no! Stella (spangle hamburg) keeps sneezing and her chest is rattly. Does she have pneumonia? If someone will tell me what to search on the internet I'll do whatever I need to do but I don't know what's wrong with her. I just got her Saturday and I know I shouldn't have let her around my other chickens yet but I did

She's still running around and she's eating but sounds terrible. Now I wonder if the others will get sick too. I hate keeping her in a small cage because she hates it. What to do?

You might try the flour trick to be able to see tracks from what is taking them. Just spread a light dusting of flour around the area and then look for tracks the next morning.

My MIL lives over on 74 just S of the 74F turnoff and it's not uncommon for them to trap up to five bobcts every year.

Fox is another possibilty. Coyotes usually take a kill farther away and you will find a trail of parts as the bird is consumed as the coyote walks with it.

I would do a search for Denagard. Nanakat can give you more info about it, shoot her a PM.

When bringing in birds from outside even if you keep them seperated that is no guarentee that they won't get sick. Your flock could be carriers of any number of nasty things that the new birds have not been exposed to.

That is what I thought too, the coops have wire burried 18" and there is sheet meCtal from 18" undergroud to the roof of the coop.  I am guessing it dropped in from the tree over the run, it has chicken wire over the top of the run but a snake could fit through that.  It took my a few days to figure that out.  We are going to move our broody to a rabbit hutch this weekend.  I just can't chance it with another snake.  The rabbit hutch should be safe since it is hardware cloth on the front and back and solid plywood for everything else.  At least that is my prayer that she will be safe there with her eggs.  We never had a snake in the coops until I left her to set on eggs.  We usually gather eggs 2-3 times a day just so they aren't in there to tempt snakes.  Now I just need to get a hutch empty for her to go in, right now they are full of chicks, lol.
You put chicks in rabbit hutches? Me tooo :) :D
