***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I agree with NNBreeder about the Denagard. You have to order it online, QC is about the cheapest you're going to find it <http://www.qcsupply.com/denagard-liquid-concentrate-novartis.html>
In the meantime you can give injections of Tylan 50, 1/2 cc a day in the breast muscle for 5-6 days, you can get it at Tractor Supply. There were so many chickens and chicken people from all over the state there Saturday, any single 1 of them could've dragged something on their shoes, clothes, birds, (whatever) that the Hamburg had never been exposed to. Plus the stress of moving to a new home is hard on birds, all they want is the familiar and all of a sudden that's gone. I feel so bad for new birds, it must be terrifying. We all live and learn the hard way, what's done is done so don't beat yourself up for not quarantining. Trust me-you'll know better next time :)

Today was Teva's day off so I have been away from the computer most of the day.

They are running her from 500-650 miles a day and she is still loving her job. Found a nice tract of land just outside of Enid but it is still going to take close to a year to get this place closed down the way I want to and get moved up there.

Heard from Stray this evening. She says "hi" to all of her friends on here and wishes the best for everyone. Her computer keeps showing a 404 error when she tries to log on. She will hit the log-in button and then the 404 page pops up. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

I would do a search for Denagard. Nanakat can give you more info about it, shoot her a PM.

When bringing in birds from outside even if you keep them seperated that is no guarentee that they won't get sick. Your flock could be carriers of any number of nasty things that the new birds have not been exposed to.
I just went ahead and ordered some Denagard from QC Supply. It sounds like something that wouldn't hurt to have on hand anyway. I just have a handful of young (5 week old) birds, I hate to think of them carry nasty diseases. Maybe this is because I don't think of them as "birds" but my pets. Haha.... Hoping this will get Stella back to feeling great~!

Hello everyone. Worked till 6. Came home and worked on coop till dark. All this work is kickin my butt. I'm tired. Field trip tomorrow. My coop is coming along great. Expect to be finished by this weekend.

Elie Mae thanks for the offer. I am sure you are just as busy as I am.

Love all the pics. Sorry to those that lost their poultry.

Hannah, love the coop.

It saddens me that there have been arguments and people leaving. I think we ALL have something to contribute to BYC in some way. We should just agree to disagree and carry on, not walk away. I really look forward to the next event whenever that may be. I hope to get to know everyone a little better.

Goodnight everyone.

Olcowboy, that crooked toed rooster turned into a chainsaw about two weeks ago. One day he was fine and the next I near drew back a bloody stub when I went to feed him. LOL

Teva of course got pics of him trying to tear chunks out of my arm when I got him out to look him over. Usually when a bird does me that way it's just me and Teva can handle the bird but not this time. If anyone gets within 10 feet of the pen he is hitting the side like he is actually somebody!

Against my better judgement though I think I will keep him. aside from the crooked toes he is a magnificent bird and I love the body type and the shape of his head. Gonna keep his spurs trimmed short though, he can draw blood with just the buttons so I can only imagine what he would do with points.

The good news though is that nearly all of the diseases are species specific so you can't catch them.

Those in SE Asia that have caught the H5N1 virus from poultry have much closer contact with the birds that we ever would and that includes pet birds.

The media really makes it a much more serious problem then it is. Just in the city of Hong Kong there are millions of birds consumed daily with a very low infection rate .

When we were out in the garden oldest DD walked to the barn then up towards the house. Crazy hawk came & dive bombed right by her. Of course my chicken loving DD was screaming to get the shotgun. Within 5 min the hawk was back with friends. Didn't see them get anything, but most of the time a few gun shots will startle them well enough to get them to scatter. I have tried honking the horn & they don't seem to notice. I know we have enough moles & rabbits to feed all the hawks in Caddo county--- seems like chickens taste better.
The new clear plastic egg cartons came--- DD is so excited. She ran in telling me they are so pretty! The dz packs break in half, so they may appeal more to some of the elderly at the market that don't need a bunch of eggs.
Buster I know Grady used Fetrels & he also added oil to the feed mix. Think it was soybean oil, but don't have the recipe in front of me. I have used red cell in the birds water for added vitamins since we have been doing mixed feed -- not sure how much it helps, we haven't done Cornish X. I do 1T of red cell per gal of water once a wk when we deep clean the waters.
I wish I could fire off a few rounds, but it's illegal where I live.
