***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Easiest way I know is to take a bucket lid and cut it in half and snap one half back on the bucket, you may have to put a couple screws in the rim to keep it from coming off when they get in and out, a lot of time I just lay the bucket on its side on the ground and set a couple bricks in front and on each side, then if you want to move a setting hen you can pop a lid on the bucket and move her and take the lid off slowly!!! Lynn
Just thought of something I seen the other day, you can build a 2x6 frame to fit around the bucket and set it on the ground or put a plywood bottom on it and then set the bucket in it, then it is easily removable to clean or move, Lynn

Well we are finally home. Got everyone moved home and got the 5th wheel home. Still have to unpack it but that can wait, lol. I feel like I could sleep for 2 weeks. So glad fireworks season is over for us. Sorry some are having issues with folks that aren't responsible with what they bought. We shoot fireworks off year round around here but we are sensable about it. Plus right now we aren't doing any it is just to dry for our likings.

We lost 3 of our young chicks this last week and may loose another. It isn't acting very chickie, I brought it in the house but still acting lathargic. Our pullet that we thought the heat got to last week has an injured leg. She is hopping around like she has always been like that. I have her in a brooder outside now by herself. I told hubby the instant she acts like she is in pain we will put her down but we have a friend with a one legged guinea so I figure if she learns to adjust to the injury I will leave her be.

Hubby and I have the plans drawn out for the new pens. I can't wait to get them finished. We also decided we are selling all the GS Marans so if anyone hears of anyone wanting some let us know. I have plans for those pens that I can't wait to start on, lol. Has anyone built a coop with two yards on it so you can alternate the yards where the birds don't just turn them to dirt? We weren't sure if that would work or not. I hate that I can't let them free range all the time but we have to many critters that would make them lunch if we did.

I set 8 dozen guinea eggs today I can't wait to see how many hatch. Some of the eggs were a few days over the 2 weeks point so not sure those will hatch or not. Our neighbor wants a dozen when they hatch, they are having a huge tick problem this year where we haven't seen to many with all our guineas running around.

Well off to Walmart Nathanael and Jack go to camp next week for the first time. They have a list of things they need and of course they have been itching to get it all gathered to pack before Nathanael leaves on Sunday and Jack leaves on Friday. HOpe everyone is keeping cool.

Guess I'm just a plain old fat Dommiecker! Must need worming too since all I want to do is eat!lol. Greybear feeling your pain today. I think every joint in my body hurts today. Been trying to cut back on some meds since ins. doesn't want to cover them. I guess its withdrawl, had to give in and take them finally, hope they take affect soon. Its 1-- out on our deck in the shade! Got rabbits stacked all over the kitchen! Sure be glad when this heat breaks.

I'm so glad you're back. We don't do well without your input on a regular basis, Cathie. I've got Bantam Ameraucana in lots of colors in the incubator and then just set 8 pretty blue Araucana eggs today, I couldn't resist. I've got more yards than birds right now and I figured what better way to celebrate :-D I'm hoping for some Bantam Cochin eggs soon also if MJ's hens cooperate.

what breed of chicken best describes you? if you thought of yourself as type of chicken. lol
Hmmm, well I can only go by the birds I have because I don't know enough about other types. I'd probably be a Spangle Hamburg because she's always running around looking for something to do and keeping an eye on everyone, and she's bossy.

I so hope the weather man in telling the truth a out the up coming cool down. I was getting ready to yank up my greenbeans, but I am waiting to see if the rain & cooler weather helps them out & helps some more tomatoes set.
Looking forward to the Newcastle sale. Only going to sale. No new birds here for us-- we have plenty! Tonight I am going to clean the ducks pond & spend some more time looking for guinea nest in the woods. I have a guinea hen that I am certain is sitting on eggs. I have seen her twice come up for food & water & tried to follow her. She refuses to show me where her nest is. Sneaky sneaky birds!

I don't know enough about most of the chicken breeds to know, but it would definately be red feathered and have a top knot, not quiet, but not mean.
