A new (6:40 pm) CRAIGSLIST add is up for free lumber in Verdigris. Has photos, looks like coop material to me. Any one out that way might take a look.

hi guys- guinea mama was out most the day with the babies, figured she wouldn't head to the coop- she surprised me... she herded them all back in- but they had fun exploring all day. i think i was a wreck being afraid something wanted a guinea snack...

Hubby and I have the plans drawn out for the new pens. I can't wait to get them finished. We also decided we are selling all the GS Marans so if anyone hears of anyone wanting some let us know. I have plans for those pens that I can't wait to start on, lol. Has anyone built a coop with two yards on it so you can alternate the yards where the birds don't just turn them to dirt? We weren't sure if that would work or not. I hate that I can't let them free range all the time but we have to many critters that would make them lunch if we did.

I once had a link for a co-op down in South America that was setting up sustainable ag. projects for villages. One of the projects they were doing was a 4 pen off of a central coop and doing reseeding and composting in the empty pens. Of course our growing season is not year round like theirs but using wheat during the winter could help you out for a while.

Oh and another thing I just remembered from an old ag. book that I have around here. When you have sloped ground always move livestock up the hill as you graze them out. Guess that would include chicken tractors too. Then once they get to the top of the hill move them over twice the length of the moveable pen and start back up the hill again.

This insures that they have fresh grazing and helps to break the life-cycle of parasites. Plus as the old saying goes.... Well I can't repeat it here but it has to do with something rolling downhill!

There are several here that hatch nearly year-round but first it may help if you would narrow your breed choices down a tad. Or tell us what you are looking for as to what you want them to be such as pets, layers, show birds etc.
