***OKIES in the BYC III ***

This is my first year to plant sorghum too, but mine isn't heading yet. I only had a couple of stalks to survive the chicken highway. Seems I planted it right where the chickens decided to make a highway (after I planted it of couse) I'll save the seed this year and replant next year in a better location.

Well it looks like we will have new residents tomorrow evening. Things aren't perfect and I still want to touch up a couple of places but they should have a nice place to call home.

I got the netting trimmed up, some shade areas built and most of the cinder blocks in place.

Still need to get that trash picked up and finish putting the cinder blocks around the fence. Also going to run a bar across the top of the gate to tie the netting to.

My daughter decided that the new birds needed decorations in their house.

Should be fun watching her learn her way around the chickens.

might have to find me a "man cave" chicken thread on here. Too much bling. lol please do not show my wife.

My husband saw it and I had to reassure him that I was more the "collect lots of chickens" kind of crazy chicken lady, not the "decorate the nest boxes" kind of crazy chicken lady. He didn't seem very reassured though.

SDSKnifeworks, that's one fine chicken set up! I can tell it was a ton of work.
I have 1 tip for you when you go to get your chickens. Bring along a can of Sevin Dust and dust them for lice and mites. Most all newly acquired chickens have one or the other, usually lice. It's just one of those things. But given the fact you've got kids you'll want to get it taken care of right away.

Ran to Chickasha & got feed. My sister said it was raining in Lawton. I checked out the radar & went quick grabbed feed & headed home. Got 5 miles from the house & it began pouring so hard I couldn't see to drive! Thankfully none of the feed is too wet. I laid a tarp on the barn floor & spread out the bags in hopes the contents didn't get wet. It has been raining & storming ever since.
Thankful we picked the garden this AM, kids are already asleep! Evening chores were put on hold due to the rain so they didn't hesitate to crawl into bed early.
I checked the broodies to make sure they all had their babies out of the weather & all was good. Other chores can wait until the rain clears.

SDSkinfeworks, I zip stripped my netting everywhere that it could have possibly been loose. DH had used hog clips to secure it originally, but he didn't get every square. Wanting to make sure the net was good I went through a thousand or so zip ties! Thankful for the 20 pks of zipties I got @ Newcastle this wk. I am sure they will come in handy!
I have been begging for a shade shelter for a few of the pens, I printed the pic of yours to encourage DH. Sure I can work power tools, but he seems to think he does it better.

Hello everyone. We finally got some much needed rain this evening. It already quit though but a little is better than nothing. I got my small 4x8 pen finished and will post a pic within the next day or two. I sure learned alot about carpentry. I must have torn down that thing several times before I got it right, or somewhat right.

I bought my chickies a mister and at first they were a little scared of it and would run past it but now they love it. Especially with all of this hot weather. My lavender orps are getting big. They should start laying anytime. Can't wait! My BCM's are also getting big.

Now if I could just finish the hen house!

Love the chicken bling bucket.
