***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good Sunday Morning! The coffee is on and starting to kick in. :) I already water what the grasshoppers have left me which is pretty much my melons.
A cool 67°F here this morning, it hit 103°F here yesterday but the temp did drop 13°s late in the afternoon, their only calling for 95°F today.....
Hope y`all have a great day!
Found a new product (at least for me) called Viper. It comes in a four pound bag. Sprinkle it on the plants and the grasshoppers are very hungry. Th e Viper is permythrin and is safe for use on dogs cats livestock and poultry. Gets anything that eats the leaves with the dust on them. Works fast!
Just checking in. Put up 150 lbs of tomatoes yesterday. LOTS & LOTS of salsa. Was an exhausting day but worth it. We have enough salsa to get us through the yr. Next canning batch will be seasoned tomato sauce for pizza & spaghetti & such. my poor chickens are going to develop acid reflux from all these tomatoes!
Now off the clean & pack up the incubators, until spring. Also making a big batch of egg dip, yummy!
Sorry we missed Blanchard sale, but life is busy!
I'm really impressed! You go girl!!

Anyone looking for a good CW roo? Hubby got the trio at POOPS and we ended up with two roos. I have been thinking two were roos for a few weeks but today they started at each other so I need to get one a new home. I don't want them hurting each other but I don't want to kick one out to free range either since they are such beautiful birds I would cry if something got the roo I turned loose.

Hubby laid out the plans for the new pens these will be the final new pens added. (okay so I can dream lol). These new pens will be 20x20 and will be for my new sexlink breeders. Hubby just have to make a trip to his cousins house to pick up the fence panels.
Sorry about that...Carl beat me to the suggestion to keep both. They go thru that gangley stage just like litle boys. And the pullets do a little challenging too. Are the saddle feathers pointed on both of them?

I can't shed any light on your chicks identity, but they are cute. I had 3 to hatch from eggs I got at neocs. Mine are being raised by a broody mom, woo hoo it is awesome my first time w/ a broody mom chicken doing all the work and I like it! lol
Love those broodie mothers.
Great recipes ladies. Thanks.

Thank You.....I will add that to my arsenal.

NaNa where do you get Viper? Wonder if it would work on those dang japanese beetles on my roses?
Saw the weather stats this morning. We have been wet 7 out of the past 9 days and dry 52 out 54 days prior to that! Now its supposed to start heating up again. Which makes it extremely muggy. Thats when I have to stay in,can't handle the heavy muggy air.
Gotta can tomatoes this morning. Nothing like what jcatblum is doing but a few anyway.
Have a great day all!

Thanks Nana, I will try to get pictures of them tonight if I can. I have to stop somewhere and get two new tires for my car on the way home so it might be a late night for me, lol. I have been calling them my gentle giants but yesterday they were anything but gentle with each other. I don't like to see my birds squable but I will put up with the pecking order thing but not anything past that. I may be able to move one over in with my FBCM youngsters they are only 2 months old and the roos aren't challenging each other yet.

The Viper stuff now that is bad for chickie doos right? My boys had been doing so good eating just the bugs until one figured out those big green round things on the tomato plants tasted good too. So now they are eating my tomatos right along with the bugs! Plus I have a few pepper plants that the bugs really seem to be liking right now.

Oh and one of my roos is not a roo, Nathanael was chasing a loose chick (still don't know how it got out) and found an egg behind a piece of plywood leaning up against the side of the house. It has to be one of my big "roos" because they are the only ones free ranging. It is a white egg which leads me to belive it is one of the barred rock mixes but all of those seem to have tail feathers. I have a few buff that are HUGE and if one of those is a girl dang she is one beefy gal. The only other choice is a BA but all my buff and BA girls lay light brown eggs. So guess we will wait till the boys are crowing before we set up a freezer camp day.

Everyone have a great Monday

Hey OkRacefan-the BR (although not marked well) hen that was in with the Brown Red boy before you got him laid her 1st egg the day after you took him. I popped it into the incubator 4 days ago and just candled it and it's growing! So for the 1st time ever I'm actually hoping for a boy this time since it'd be a BR boy. Although a girl would always be nice, too.
cool! The roo decided to charge at me yesterday so I think we will go thru a power struggle here and i will not back down..

Got another big day ahead of me! on the hunt for another dehydrator. Wanting to make some jerky and other stuff. Still have more tomatos so ill be canning them as well. Plus kiddos and the hubby want muffins. spent the weekend working on things out side and visiting friends and family. Got a lil break from my older two kiddos. nana took them for a bit. Well off to sip a lil more coffee and get my butt round to town.

I had been meeting Oreo's challenges w/ hard objects at hand (boards, pipes, buckets, etc...) but he always came back for more (though usually later not right then) I don't back down either and one time thought I killed him. Anyway a little over a week ago I was really still very mad at him (the whole hole in the leg incident) So for the rest of that day I sprayed him w/ the jet setting on the water hose everytime he even looked at me and kept spraying until he was out of range of the spray, that has worked so much better then anything else so far. He will walk around me from a greater distance now and so far hasn't had any further incidence. I don't know if it will continue to work or not, but if it doesn't my killing station is now built so...................................

Good Monday to ya'll! We have decided here to embark on a new adventure. Looks like we're going to get some cattle, not sure when, but we found the mini dexters and herefords and fell in love with them. This should be one interesting ride. I'm extremely excited, scared, but excited. Like I've said before, I was born & raised a city girl. I have always had a love for all animals and wanted to live in the country. This country living has been great so far. Love my chickens, Love my garden, my 6 year old tell us everyday that he' so glad we moved out here, why not bring on some cattle.

How big do they get?

If/when we ever move into the country I was going to get dwarf milking goats, but several months ago discovered the mini cows and decided that is what we would get. (mostly b/c I really want lots of fruit trees too)

Well Nathanael HAS to build a new pen before he adds any new breeds. He has 4 big rabbit hutches with birds (1 with his OEGB family it was a momma and her 4 babies who are ALL roos of course, 1 with his Opals who are now laying about 3 times a week, 1 with Mr. Red his original roo and Mr. Silver who is the one you gave him the first time, and 1 with his Colombians) He wants to take his Little Tykes Castle and transform it into a coop but we need to figure out how to attach the hardware cloth to the plastic.
I think I saw someone did a coop page with instructions on how to do that.
