***OKIES in the BYC III ***

contact the county tax office and they will send you a form to fill out and than mail it back, then you wait for a response. Are you in town or on a acreage?
Farm tax number..... I called my County asessor and they said first you have to file a scedule F tax form for that year then bring it up to them then they file for your number. They said you can't just walk up and file for it at any time, you must file your taxes first as a scedule F..

Different deal, I think. Tax exempt number lets you buy stuff for your farm without paying sales tax on it. There is no paperwork involved except the store takes your information and keeps it on file. You are thinking of a sales tax permit where you sell stuff and charge sales tax on it. Most folks don't do that for personal sales.

However, those of us who sell at markets and are running a business have to. We have to have a sales tax permit, an egg handlers license, and we have to use new cartons to sell our eggs in, not used. That is the law. And that is why we have to charge more for our eggs to break even.

Although truth be told, everyone who sells eggs is supposed to do that, whether you sell them out your back door or what. But lots of people don't.
Thanks for clarifying. We have a Sales Tax Permit we use it for our fireworks stand. I am ordering new cartons for our eggs since I am gaining new customers. Before I was lucky if I was selling a dozen a week. I'm still not selling that many maybe 10 dozen a month we give away more than we sell (we have 3 elderly couples we keep in eggs that live on our "street"). But I want to start using the new cartons to start treating it like a real business and track what we give and sell to see where we are cost wise.

I will have hubby check into the farm tax # we sure could use it. We also heard you have to have a tractor. We don't have a need for one really we only have 8 1/2 acres and we only have chickens as far as livestock goes. Of course hubby would love to have one but not gonna happen for no more than what we would use one right now.

Oh and filled at the tax office for the permit- eveyhing is okay and go did not need anything really but sell birds at auction every so often! No land no tractor or anything else needed.

. They are making that up. Make them show you the the regs that say that.

And Buster scores again. Got this setup tonight for $900. Not a great price, but it will look good at my place and certainly do the job. Besides, it came from one of the sustainable broiler pioneers of Oklahoma, so it has a strong legacy and will be put to good use.

Pickwick plucker ($8,885 retail) with professional turkey size scalder ($2,295 retail) in the background, along with two turkey frier type scalders in the far back.

Big professional style evisceration table with all the fixins... except her moron sons and grandson ripped off half the fixins to get it through the door, rather than use a wrench. Easy enough to fix, though. Retail $2,495. Very nice.

Awesome kill cabinet that can hold 20 birds at a time and uses shackles rather than kill cones. Cabinet $2,850 retail, shackles $95 each.

I now have two complete processing systems, enough for my home, and enough to build a mobile processing unit to share with friends. Not bad for a day's work.
Nice Score!!

Quote: Agreed...We've had a farm tax number for years and unless the regs have changed, you don't need to do that.

One of my 3 finally finished his online schooling, so I may actually get some pc time the rest of the summer.

Think you should find liquid smoke near Worcheshire sauce. It is always on the top shelf at the commissary. Assuming it is there @ other stores. It is a small bottle, and doesn't stand out. Hope you can find some. We use bunches! Between jerky, brisket & egg dip liquid smoke is a must have @ our place!

It's usually with the marinades, Worcestershire sauce, BBQ sauce that kind of stuff

Yup, just because a bird has DQs for show doesn't mean that it is any LESS a pure bred bird that is perfect for show. I mean I have seen registered Paints come out as solids but yet they can still be registered as Paints. Seen nearly all white or all black Holstiens and they didn't magically change breeds so why should a chicken? I have seen Araucanas with tails too and I knew the lineage of them, they were pure breds hands down. But they wouldn't show. Just because they had tails were they any less an Araucana? Some Araucana breeders won't tell you that they will only breed males that have tails, why? They have better balance and you get better fertility with the eggs.

Breeders won't talk about "sports" which are birds that hatch out of stock and don't carry forth the characteristics of the parent birds but they are out there. Usually they meet the ax and get culled, never to be spoke of.

The Ameraucana is a very young breed that is not yet stabilized, they were bred into existance in the '70s and admitted to the APA in '84. Most other breeds are at least or nearly 100 years old and I imagine some of the Asian class birds and the Games have been bred for thousands of years in the Far East.

Oh and those green legs? I have seen them turn black with age. If they do would that make the bird an Ameraucana instead of an EE? Does a Black Ameraucana turn into an EE if positive white or red shows up in it's plumage in a later molt?

Just points to ponder.

ROFL! Robin, I remember the 10 key calculators well haha! Everyone was in awe I could add things up without looking at the keys . I love new devices! Each new device keeps an introvert like me busy for weeks.
We didn't get a drop of rain here-you all who did must be doing a lot better rain dance than the folks in my area.

Les, I hatched out 7 Araucana a month ago from eggs I got online from a great breeder with real nice birds. 4 of the 7 have tails and only 2 have the tufts growing out the side of their faces. Tails and clean faced birds have a place in breeding programs for Araucana people. I've found they don't discriminate like the majority of Ameraucana people do. I'm just not sure why so many Ameraucana people are as rigid as they are. No one denies a Cochin is a Cochin because it's legs are the wrong color or not enough toes are feathered. One thing that's consistant with each and every one of the 13 Arauacana I've got is their temperaments are astounding. I'm still in awe how gentle and kind and calm they are. Another thing I like about the Araucana breed is ALL colors are welcome, they strive to make different colors and they're all still called Araucana.

I would have guessed meth lab. :/
Me too, or crazy cat people.

Good to know I am sending hubby for one tomorrow then! We just bought 25 bags of feed that sure would have come in handy then! LOL

Need someone to adopt my Delaware chicken. She is 1 year old and a good layer. The problem is she has bumble foot in both feet and I can't fix it. I've already taken her to the vet and he gave me antibiotics for her. Did exactly what he told me to do but it hasn't cleared up. I can not do surgery on her myself, just watching the video on cutting out bumble foot makes me sick. I've already spent quiet a bit on the vet and antibiotics and can't afford anymore right now. She isn't limping but you can tell she is hurting. If I can't find her a home soon we will put her down.

I think robin has had sucess treating bumble foot. Hopefully someone can offer some suggestions. I have never experienced it myself.

Buster, I am not a hard worker. Just married to one! DH gets up @4 everyday & rarely gets to bed before 10. The only time he sits still is on his commute or in meetings.

Today I picked the garden early & let the kids sleep in. My sisters kids are here too so I didn't want to deal with 4 grumpy kids. Once the kids were up we cleaned the duck ponds. The ducks get so excited everytime they get the water changed. I could change t twice a day & it would still be exciting I think. At first I was scared the water from the well was too cold & they might get chilled. But they love the water if it's warm or cold.
My broody hen situation seems to be worsening daily. And we haven't seen more than a dz eggs a day in at least 2 wks. Mitzi I can't believe your "bad" layers are laying well. Most of my layers are RIR. They don't act like they are hotter than any others. The crazy thing is the langshans were laying about an egg a day (between the 3 of them) and it hasn't changed. They are very large birds, but don't seem to notice the heat as bad as the others. We have collected 1 guinea egg in 2 days. Was getting 18-24 a day.

Crazy how I hear so many different things on farm tax! I seriously walked into the assessors office & was back in my car within 10min. One of the easiest things I ever did & I am sure it has saved us hundreds.

For those that were interested in modular houses. We spent about a month working on details & plans. Began at $165k & by the time all fees & such were included we were up to $210k. We decided to take some more time to decide what our next step will be. We were considering modular for the savings & convenient process. However I don't see there to be any savings & I felt like I was dealing with a shady used car dealer.
