***OKIES in the BYC III ***

. They are making that up. Make them show you the the regs that say that.
I thought they were stalling me, Cause all the farmers around me said they just went up and filed the form. I called the Oklahoma Tax commission after posting this thread, and the lady said she was checking into the situation and will call me tomorrow. She wanted my county and who I talked to that told me that. So I'm curious to see what she says tomorrow. The county survives off sales taxes, so of course they want EVERYONE to pay sales tax..

I think robin has had sucess treating bumble foot. Hopefully someone can offer some suggestions. I have never experienced it myself.
Buster, I am not a hard worker. Just married to one! DH gets up @4 everyday & rarely gets to bed before 10. The only time he sits still is on his commute or in meetings.
Today I picked the garden early & let the kids sleep in. My sisters kids are here too so I didn't want to deal with 4 grumpy kids. Once the kids were up we cleaned the duck ponds. The ducks get so excited everytime they get the water changed. I could change t twice a day & it would still be exciting I think. At first I was scared the water from the well was too cold & they might get chilled. But they love the water if it's warm or cold.
My broody hen situation seems to be worsening daily. And we haven't seen more than a dz eggs a day in at least 2 wks. Mitzi I can't believe your "bad" layers are laying well. Most of my layers are RIR. They don't act like they are hotter than any others. The crazy thing is the langshans were laying about an egg a day (between the 3 of them) and it hasn't changed. They are very large birds, but don't seem to notice the heat as bad as the others. We have collected 1 guinea egg in 2 days. Was getting 18-24 a day.
Crazy how I hear so many different things on farm tax! I seriously walked into the assessors office & was back in my car within 10min. One of the easiest things I ever did & I am sure it has saved us hundreds.
For those that were interested in modular houses. We spent about a month working on details & plans. Began at $165k & by the time all fees & such were included we were up to $210k. We decided to take some more time to decide what our next step will be. We were considering modular for the savings & convenient process. However I don't see there to be any savings & I felt like I was dealing with a shady used car dealer.
We did the same thing when we looked at modular homes.. That is when we bought our house in the country. I decided I couldn't sink that kind of money into what I considered a mobil home, lol. For that kind of money you want better quality than what they will provide.

Buster - Wow, wow, and WOW some more! You got an amazing deal on that processing equipment. Make a video when you process 25 or more. I'm sure there are a lot of folks on here who would benefit from seeing the work done well. Again, congratulations on your purchase.

Darklingstorm - I sent you a PM.

Lost my valient Japanese Roo to a snake, he was my favorite and dearest died but all his girls are safe and sound.
I'm so sorry. I've considered Japanese so many times and have yet to get any. Are their personalities like OEGB?
I bet his hens hid behind him and that's why they're safe.

Farm tax number..... I called my County asessor and they said first you have to file a scedule F tax form for that year then bring it up to them then they file for your number. They said you can't just walk up and file for it at any time, you must file your taxes first as a scedule F..

I file a schedule F anyways, not that I make any profit but it does help on the deductions though. I use my Farm Tax number on any building materials or agg stuff that I buy. To me with TN and filing schedule F you get some kind of deduction at least.

He was amazingly sweet, and a bit of a show off even for Roos! From the scene he died protecting his ladies. Got to find a new little guy for them - for now they are all penned up extra tight until I get this newest snake.

Different deal, I think. Tax exempt number lets you buy stuff for your farm without paying sales tax on it. There is no paperwork involved except the store takes your information and keeps it on file. You are thinking of a sales tax permit where you sell stuff and charge sales tax on it. Most folks don't do that for personal sales.

However, those of us who sell at markets and are running a business have to. We have to have a sales tax permit, an egg handlers license, and we have to use new cartons to sell our eggs in, not used. That is the law. And that is why we have to charge more for our eggs to break even.

Although truth be told, everyone who sells eggs is supposed to do that, whether you sell them out your back door or what. But lots of people don't.
And yes you can be audited with a farm tax number. Just save your reciepts and make darn sure that only stuff used on the farm is deemed tax exempt.

A brief story and a very true one.

A friend of mine was delivering his tractor to his farm on a commercial truck and stopped by the CO-OP to fuel it up. A few weeks later the Tax Comission called him and asked about it and he said yes he fueled it on the truck so they said well you have to pay road tax on the fuel. No big deal. paid the tax and basically forgot about it.

A couple of months later OTC called him again. Seems they calculated the distance between all of his farms and estimated how many times he drove it to work the fields etc. and charged him not only road tax but went back five years and added interest on top of that. I guess that bill had to be paid out in installments.

If you get to talking to farmers/ranchers they will often tell of things like this. Ya'll know about red-colored diesel? It is for off road use only and the Corperation Comission (OCC) has the right to make you open your fuel tank and take a sample of your fuel in your on road vehicle. If red fuel is found the min fine is 10 grand and I have actually seen them sticking fuel tanks at auction houses.

One of the local farmers has a 10,000 gallon tank for fuel storage and buys his fuel by the semi-load to get a deep discount. He only has 1 4x4 and a couple of smaller tractors on the place. OCC came to the farm to check him out and surmised that he had way too much fuel on the place for his smaller operation so he must somehow be using the fuel in his pick-up. But that day they just didn't catch him at it. You guessed it they fined him.

Talk to anyone that works a drilling rig, OCC comes out nearly monthly to stick tanks out there.

Been running the soaker hoses all day around the trees we plantd 15 years ago. One of the oak trees has begun to get a yellow cast to the leaves. If it is stressed I know all the lodgepole pines, Scotch pines and Redbuds are stressed. I had been watering the new fruit trees and simply forgot about all the landscpe plantings.....got to play catch-up for the next several days. We have gotten a toltal of 3/10 of an inch in the past 5 weeks. Our last good rain was back in early June with an inch.

Glad you called the Tax Commission. Just doesn't sound right. Your county can't do anything different from other counties since these are state and federal regs.
We file Schedule F for the same reason Okracefan does. I keep records on both the cattle operation for hubby and BIL, and a separate one for the farm which include my chickens and materials used on our property as well as depreciation on the farm equipment, insurance and utilities used for the barn. There is a whole list on Schedule F that figures into the deductions.
