***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I LOVE raw milk. We no longer have a regular source for it though.
Maybe when DH retires we can consider our own milking animal. I personally think we have enough chores for us girls to handle right now. Maybe we would even consider milk goats, since a goat is more manageable in size.

Mitzi look on the bright side. It will only be 100 degrees this weekend.

We're looking at getting a couple of pygmy goats. We're all allergic to cows milk but we can drink goat's milk and the pygmy breeds produce enough that our family could have fresh milk and cheese, plus the pygmy's are considered pets instead of livestock so they can be kept in town. Lynn's idea of the mini breed cows sounds interesting too though, for those who can drink cow's milk.

Closest official weather station to us is reporting 117.3F. I measured temps in my yard. Highest temp was up by the house at 49C which converts to 120F. Lowest temp was at the chicken yard, 47C converting to 116.6F. Chickens were all happy though. Everybody found a shady place in the dirt and was hunkered down.

Came home early today to spend time with the kids, got outside and made sure all waterers are full of cool water and let the guinea babies out of the hoop house. It is just to hot I feel like they have a better chance of staying cool if I let them out during the day. I put a small sprinkler out for my smallest guinea babies and the CWs. My CW roo is feeling better so hoping this helps him stay cooler.

Came home to find Jennifer broke both pairs of her good glasses (her regular pair AND the back up pair) then today wearing her old glasses they "fell off her face and she stepped on them" can we all say "suspicious!" Okay kid rant over, lol.

Everyone please stay in when you can. It is just to hot out there. I have the soaker hoses on almost continually for the garden right now. I probably will loose 3 rose bushes plus the roses I got at POOPS. We have been watering but I think it is just so hot outside they can't take it. I have the sprinkler going for the trees in the front of the house and it is hitting the suburban. The suburban is DRY by time the sprinkler comes by again!

If you do find another source please let me know!

Goats milk is actually closer to human milk in composition than another other milk. Matthew who we adopted at 3 weeks old ended up on goats milk with added vitamin D instead of formula because he couldn't take any of the commercial formulas. Of course if I knew then I could have breastfed him I would have. We had a great older couple in our church that gave us all the goats milk he needed for free.

haven't lost any yet- but am having refugees in the house when i think they are critical- dunking bird, spraying yards, carting ice- sheesh

well, this little pullet kind of reminds me of someone with asthma.... do chickens get asthma?
