Just seeing this, do you know where they are located? Not sure we need anymore layers right now but at that price I would love to get some more.
They are just north of Slick they said.

I don't have a sprinkler buy my chickens especially the lighter colored ones look faded and tattered too. I assumed it was the heat and sun (even though they spend the entire time in the shade their only time in the sun is to run to the next shade spot) I am going to start adding lard to thier feed as soon as I find a good source for it. That was a suggestion that Al made on another thread.Christina, my birds are looking bleached out from the sun, does that happen to yours? They look faded. And even the ones without males in with them look like their feathers are tattered, what's up with that? Too many mud baths? They're wet a LOT from being under the sprinklers, maybe that dries their feathers out or something. They sit under the spray from the sprinkler in the shade and just shake the water off every so often. It must feel goodbut they get to looking like drowned rats.![]()
Mike, my Bantam Faverolles are laying like crazy also. Does your friend want LF or Bantams?
Oh I hate kidney stones I used to get them at least once a year. Try to up your water intake, cut back on tea, coffee and soda. Also limit your calcium intake. You need to up your magnesium and vit. D intake. Kidney stones develope many times because your magnesium and vit D levels are low. Calcium needs magnesium and vit. d to attach itself to the cells and without it the body flushes the excess calcium from the body via the kidneys thus you get the stones. When they hit me I also add cranberry tablets to help ward off kidney and bladder infections. Get to feeling better soon!Well they say when it rains it pours and around me it's mostly true except in regards to the weather no rain here and it's dryer than a popcorn %$*&! LOL I went to see my Dr today to get a referral over the issue I had last Fri and wound up in the ER again this time not for my ticker my kidney decided it was time to introduce me to the joyous wonders of passing a stone (Oh joy!!) it's not a large one but I've never dealt with one before and hope once this one has gone its way I never have to do this again,
Hope everyone has a great night and a better tomorrow![]()

I wonder if flaxseed oil would be even better since it's got the Omega 3's. I might look into that.
Flaxseed oil is an excellent source of Omega 3's and I know lots of people use it for their dogs and cats. It stands to reason it'd be good for birds also but I really don't know..why lard? or oil??
What breed are they? I am not an expert. I know my Cochins pullets sometimes start to lay at as young as 5 mo. but not all of them do. If I was a pullet, no matter what breed, i wouldn't want to start laying in this heat.My Mottled Blue hen let everyone know when she layed today, talking/clucking on and on. She still isn't as vocal as my LF hen, Peaches, what a Diva! - definitely sings an Opera aria when she lays. She is broody now and gets a whole gallon of ice by her nest every day.
