***OKIES in the BYC III ***

hey, what are the symptoms of gape worm?? one of mine occasionally sneezes, wheezes at night, not sure what is going on
Roibin, gapeworm wouldn't be my 1st thought. MG/chronic respiratory disease would be though. That's what's so dang common (what Denagard is for). I've been reading more and more about it.

I don't know how much longer I can take worrying about the birds in this heat. It's way hotter here than flipping Phoenix, AZ and the Mohave Desert!

Robin, last yr when it was hot like this for wks. Fat Louie sounded bad at night, almost like he was growling when he went to roost. He never had any other symptoms & he is still alive & well. Gape worms are suppose to be rare. If it was gape worms I don't think the symptoms would be limitted to one birds.

Here's a link to the hottest places in the world right now! Wanna guess at them before you look at the screen shot I took of the page???
I feel so sorry for us :-(

Off subject but I had to share this from another forum I am on, I found it refreshingly rewarding!
Greetings,
My chlestorol really improved when I bought a dairy cow. She only eats
forage, no grains. I have always had familial chlesterol, so my overall
numbers were close to 400, the ratio of bad to good, was not good.
After drinking lots of raw milk, eat lots of raw milk cheese, icecream,
butter etc my overall number was down to 235 and the ratio of good to
bad was perfect. Worked for me, and helped me beat cancer, I love my cow.

Bright Blessings,

I LOVE raw milk. We no longer have a regular source for it though.
Maybe when DH retires we can consider our own milking animal. I personally think we have enough chores for us girls to handle right now. Maybe we would even consider milk goats, since a goat is more manageable in size.

Mitzi look on the bright side. It will only be 100 degrees this weekend.

Well my 7 yo Heather just came in crying, I guess the heat got the best of her Americauna hen (Dotty) that she bought from Bill and Elaine at the NEOCS!! Dang this heat! I can't hardly breath out in this, i feel for the chickens and animals and those that have to work out in it! Lynn

You might check into some of the Mini Milk Cows on the market today, there are Mini Jerseys, Holstiens, Gernseys, Belted Galloways and others that consume less feed and of course give less milk and are easier to manage, making them perfect for family cows!!! Lynn

Sorry to hear that. It's so much harder when it's one of the kids animals, I know. This heat has got to go away!!

Well, we got two of the rabbits, the boys, put in the freezer this afternoon. Geez Louise, that was the simplest processing ever I think. Way easier and faster than doing chickens. They both dressed out at 2 1/2 pounds at 14 weeks old. We're going to wait to do the girls until next Wednesday ... if my hubby is at home that day. He has an interview tomorrow at OSU for food service supervisor at one of the dorms and then he got a call to start a temp job here in town on Monday. Yeah hubby!! It's such a relief to know that there will be a little money coming in for a while.

And, I guess today has been our lucky day, the city came and moved the power pole that was blocking our new driveway today. We'd asked if they could move it to the fence line, about 18 inches ... well they moved it four feet into the neighbors easement and put it up against their fence. I don't know how the neighbors will ever be able to do anything to their fence now. It's sandwiched between the pole and a building that's built illegally and over the property line. I guess I should have sympathy, but man I really don't. They've been told to move that building three times and haven't done it. They also had the stringers for their fence running past our fence line and onto our property and the city cut them off. Ha. We'd have been in trouble if we'd done it. Now we can pull in and back out of our new driveway any direction we want without any problems.

Of course there was a loss in the butchering part. I left the liver in a bowl of ice setting on the kitchen counter, ready to fry it up with some onions for an appetizer tonight ... but then stupidly went outside to clean off the knives and when I returned, the cats were having a feast in the middle of the kitchen floor. I'm so glad my floor is terra cotta colored. At least someone enjoyed it. Sigh.
