***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Those poor hens :-( I'm glad you've got them and they get to run around and be chickens. Even if you got them to process at least they'll get a really good life and a swift death. Which is better than they were getting from the looks of it. I know companies can't take good care of each and every animal in their care, they should but they can't. It's sad.

I could use some help! A friend of mine`s daughter rescued two baby bunnies.....They were mowing the pasture next to the school, the mother ran off and left these two cute things, she aint coming back! What I need is advice on how to keep these little things alive or hand them off to somebody who can. Let me know here or call me at 918-366-0326 thanks!

Yikes. First thing first ... are their eyes open? If not put them back where you found them, momma will come looking for them. Rabbits don't move their babies like cats or dogs do. They leave them in one place and go back to them to feed them once a day. I don't want to sound pessimistic but baby bunnies are notoriously hard to keep alive. Their momma feeds them not only her milk but a special kind of poo that has bacteria in it that they need for their digestive tracks so just feeding them kitten formula doesn't do it. Sometimes adding yogurt to the formula will work but usually not even that helps. If the babies are 6 weeks old, eyes open, hopping around a lot, eating solid foods, then they don't need their momma so much and can probably survive without her. The other problem is that they can die just from shock, just from being scared by something. It's hard to tell from the pic really how old they look. Your best bet is to either put them back where you found them or find a wildlife office that can take them. I know you want to help them but I'm not sure it's even legal to keep them given they are native rabbits. I could be wrong about that.

I went to check on the new girls tonight and they were all crowded into two corners, as if they couldn't stand the idea of not being in close contact with a bunch of other birds. It's a tiny coop, not really big enough for more that 20 or 25 birds for long periods, but these 60+ are only using a fraction of it.

This is going to be an interesting project, but I have my work cut out for me.

Buster they are sad looking birds. They will be pampered here & oh course Taron will try to take them & make sure they get lots of love.
Thanks so much for picking them up. Glad they are laying well & hopefully they will adjust well.

I'll bring her birds by the Market on Wednesday. I want to hold on to Mike's cages until after Thursday, so if you can't bring cages for 24, I'll bring them in some fruit boxes that are perfect for holding a few birds and easy to lock down.

I have more cage's if you need to use thim ...I can lone you some rooster's to put out with thim .

I will take you up on both offers, Mike. How many more can you spare and when can I pick them up before Thursday? I picked up some Fretrell Nutribalancer from a dealer in Arcadia today, so need to drop it off at Carnegie so they have it to add to my next feed order. I could swing by your place to pick it up on the way.

I have roosters, but sounds like you are talking some very special roos.

Buster if u want I can swing by mikes tomorrow & grab the cages for you. It will save you an hour or so on the rd I figure. Unless you normally come through anadarko to get to the feed store.
If you want we can stop by your place & get the birds after market. I don't want you to have to go out of your way.

Quote: I had to laugh about the Claritin-D. I could eat an entire box of that stuff and wouldn't know I had taken anything. And I'm allergic to Benadryl. I've been through so many allergy meds that my doctor finally looked at me one day and said "If you're allergic to this one too, I guess you're just screwed."

Today I was better after doing a breathing treatment and two different inhalers and finally getting some sleep but night is the worst and I'm already wheezing again tonight. I would have thought we were far enough away from the fires and smoke but I guess maybe not. We have been in Stillwater a couple of times this week and I mowed my dad's lawn down there so ... And if not being able to breathe isn't bad enough, my husband does not understand when I don't want to go outside and throw straw around or to a store and expose myself to more allergens which will make it worse than it already is or eat certain things. Sigh.

I thought about getting some of those birds but I'm not sure about the whole debeaking thing. Will their beaks grow back? The big floppy combs don't bother me at all as my own white leghorns have enormous combs that flop over like that and they most certainly don't live in a cage of any kind.

That would be great. I could then drop off the Fertrell when I return the cages. I have never been to Wednesday market, plus I need to talk to Ronnie, so I will be happy to bring the birds and pick up the cages then. Maybe 10:30 or so?

I will see you wenesday then buster! I will check with Mike in the afternoon & go by & grab cages & drop him a bunch of feed bags.

Do these birds peck everything? The debeaked ones they sell out of Purcell peck constantly. They too won't roost, reguardless of how many attempts are made.
