***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Finally made it home, long day w/ the services and the driving. The service was nice the minister did a good job, he was close to my mother, you could tell he was genuinely moved by her loss. I met several of her friends, saw my sister I had not seen in several years, saw her boys again, gotta say they scare me, seriously. I was hoping to support my brother w/ the loss of his gma-in-law, but my aunt and cousin will be returning tomorrow so I won't be able to make it to her funeral.

Quote: I bought a bunch of the red sex link debeaked birds from the guy that used to run the auction here in Lexington he buys them by the truck load from some chicken farms out of Missouri I know his name but can't think of the last name just now Jim something I'm sure someone on here knows it or his contact info, I know that there is some rivalry issues between some of these auction people and that's one of the reasons that some auctions refuse to sell the debeaked birds cause most of them around here are brought in by Jim ??? that's going to drive me crazy trying to remember his last name LOL they were great birds that I had, real laying machines and got a lot of double yoke eggs out of them I was amazed how big an egg they produced for their size, I sold the last of mine at Fletcher a couple years ago

Over the past two weeks I have been opening up a new pen to the outside each time I let the chickens out to free-range. There are a total of 8 pens. Opened up the last of the pens today and let everyone out to free range at the same time. The younger chicks have been going out in a pen in the shade instead of with the big birds just yet but they sure love being on the ground.

Today it was the d'Anvers that hatched April 30 and all the OEGB. They moved from their pen, into the larger layer pen for several days and then to the full outside...acted like they had been doing it every day.

Had a few of the bantam cockerels take on some LF cockerels and hang on to their combs like a Chihuahua on a Great Dane. Granted the LF cockerels are several weeks younger and there is that saying about men that act like banty roosters for a reason....

A few pictures
Pretty sure this is a cockerel from the eggs from Bo's blue Cochin pens. He is 4.5 months old and is the tallest of the cockerels...will be huge.

Part of the d'Anvers and a Spangled OEGB. Have not dubbed the OEGB.

I think the OEGB is a little comb jealous

Two Mille Fleurs and a Porcelain

LilGuy has taken up a few of the younger pullets. The Blue Cochin pullet is from Iowa

Got some rain today. Had a couple of decent downpours but not a whole lot of accumulation so hopefully we get more tomorrow. We did get the garden bed finished today just as it started to pour so we were running around in the rain putting the birds back in their pen and turning off the water. By the time we got back inside we decided that we should have just stayed out with a bar of soap and showered for the day. We were dripping. It was a weird feeling. We both kept thinking that it wouldn't last long enough to worry about. Kind of glad to be wrong for once.

Happy Birthday Cathie!

Josh says he wants to go to the equip auction, but I will be surprised if he makes it. They had a 16K march in full gear last night & he sounds like he is hurting! Not sure why the man with 2 knee surgeries tries to do the things those brand new 17 & 18 yr old recruits are doing.

Ouch!

Well, if you are needing a trailer, this is the one to go to. I counted at least 12 flatbed and utility trailers, at least 5 of them 16 footers. Hoping to get a good one for my mobile processing station.

Hope to see him there!
