***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Cathie, it looks like a Prairie King, normally they are not very aggressive and they are good rodent hunters but not something I would welcome into my house....I usually find 2 or 3 around here a year.

Happy Hump Day! I hope y`all have a great day!
Thanks this one was aggressive once he knew we were on to his hiding spot. He even attempted to curl up and pretend to be a rattlesnake by making a shaking noise but I figured he wasn't dangerous but he was disposed of none the less. There is not ANY kind of good snake IN my house! I hate killing them but if they are in the chicken pens or my house they are toast! LOL

My neighbor came out and was looking all over for his chicken so I gave it back. Uuggghhh. I told him how heart breaking it was seeing her get attacked and I noticed the dog was still in her area so I saved her. I let him know I would be more than happy to keep her here and nurse her back but he said he'd get a cage and come get her. I think he was looking at it as I was taken on his burden and didn't want me to have to do it. I would GLADLY take this chicken. I don't need another but I don't want her to die! I asked him where his barred rock was and he said they killed it. Grrrr. So aggrivating! I wish I weren't outside when he was looking, but I couldn't ignore it and act like I didn't know where she was. He said he would try to control the dogs better.
I really felt for the guy believe it or not. I've seen him age so much the last few years. His mother in law died and the chickens were hers and his wife is sick as well and he's taken on a second job. He just looks so tired and worn. I understand his wife is sick and I don't expect her to run out after a chicken but she could have kept the dog in the house. If she would have asked me to help when I called I would have. I'm not sure what's wrong with her but I believe it's mainly depression. I don't know what to do the next time this happens, and I'm sure it will. He just put her back out in her coop, at least I got some medicine on her. I guess I should look at it as it's none of my business but when I'm sitting in my yard and can see and hear it happen it's really hard to ignore! The craziest thing about it all is they are really nice people! I think they are just burned out on, well...everything.

do not give up on them! Maybe tell them that you are willing to help them take care of the birds. Sometimes people need a little nudge to just get them going again.

Is anyone interested in a chaweenie dog (taco and doxy mix), my sil, has rescued one. She is female, black, short haired, less then 1 year old, but full grown, a small less then 10lb dog. She is not currently spayed but my sil will have her spayed if anyone will give her a good home. I will post a pic as soon as she sends me one.

Can you send me pictures? After finding snakes in the house I am wanting a small inside dog but it will have to be fixed we don't do puppies/kittens thing. Hubby draws the line at bunches of chickens lol.

Yes, but it will be tonight before I can get them, my sil is not home right now to take them.

Snake looks like what we call a rat snake. They usually eat mice, which is a good thing and leave people alone but they will eat eggs and small chickens ... not so good. The other one, with a toad, was probably a hognose. They pretty much only eat toads and amphibians and sometimes other snakes. They are rear fanged venomous but you would have to be trying hard to get bit by one.

Very funny chicken math! I like that one.

Well, so far we've got 19 first place, 5 second place, and 3 third place in canning with 3 Ball canning awards. Then our rabbits got 3 firsts, 2 seconds, 2 champions, 2 grand champions, and 2 reserve grand champions. The judge told us we needed to be showing our junior doe in ARBA shows because she was one of the best girls he had seen in a long time. I'm thrilled and obviously know nothing about show rabbits because she was the one I thought wouldn't get anything. Ha! Poultry judging is tonight. We'll see how it goes.

I'll have to go check out your coop Kass.

Cathy sounds like you had a memorable night. Hopefully tonight you can relax. DH use to think I over reacted about how things quickly spiral out of control when he is gone. Now that he is the unit commander he has 200+ soldiers spouses & other family members to hear crazy stories from. He doesn't second guess any of it after all the crazy calls & emails he gets each week.

Erin sounds like y'all are doing great!! I think it is awesome, never grew up knowing you could do anything at the fair except ride the rides.
