If no one hen won the fight, I bet they all pack in there to hatch those two little eggs.Lordy, you shoulda' heard the screaming and squawking and cussing coming out of the Cochin girls shed yesterday. I go running in there thinking someone is getting killed and my 3 big Cochin girls and the Black Ameraucana hen are throwing each other out of the 1/2 dog crate that's in there with the 2 Shamo eggs in it. All 4 hens are FIGHTING over 2 eggs lmao!
It's just hilarious! The 3 Cochins will all share and in the mornings they're all 3 squashed flat over those 2 eggs. But the Ameraucana doesn't want to share so as soon as even *1 of the Cochins gets up to go eat or go to the bathroom she jumps in there and shoves the other 2 out of the way. So then the 1st one interrupts her bathroom break and has to come back so that it's 3 against 1. Just the 2 Cochin girls can't overtake the Ameraucana![]()

LOL My 8 year old is learning chicken math quickly! He told me last night he only has 6 chickens because he doesn't count the ones he plans on selling lol.Lost our black Ameraucana hen last night, she was dead in the coop this morning. We'd had her since the NE OK chicken stock in June. She hadn't been laying in over a week and I was JUST telling hubby yesterday she was acting funny- hanging out by herself instead of with her rooster and the other Ameraucana hen as usual. Don't know what happened but she didn't feel egg bound when I picked her up.
After not losing ANY to the heat it is sad to lose one now that it seems like such a nice time of year when we can actually get out and enjoy the chickens more...
Hubby is happy though that I agreed to let him get another blue Am. hen, and of course the only person near us we can find who has them right now will only sell as a trio so he is on his way to Nowata RIGHT NOW to bring home MORE chickens...What can I say chicken math has it's grip on us...![]()

Gotta love those cochins!! Wish mine would go broody like that.![]()
Lost two babies this morning. Our little Ameraucana that my daughter had already adopted and named, of course (why is it always those?) and one of the cornish. The cornish wasn't really a mystery though as one of the outdoor kittens got in the garage with the brooder and we caught him eating the chick. I kept saying we needed to cover them but my hubby doesn't think so and we hadn't had a problem until today. Not sure what happened with the Ameraucana. It had pasty butt yesterday but we cleaned it up but last night it was wobbly and standing straight under the brooder light, not running around like the others, not really eating. I hate it when they die but with chicks it seems you never know if they're going to make it or not until they get a little older.
