***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I've been awol for a while it took a bit to get caught up and I'm sure I missed plenty, Hope everyone is doing well, I had to scrape frost off the windshield yesterday morning I'm sure not ready for the cold weather but I guess it's crunch time to get everyone winterized and ready but I made progress the last couple of days...
Quote: I have mice around the chicken feeders and some by the rabbits a few get in the house every year but I was surprised to find a big woodrat in one of the minnow traps just outside of the big coop, I guess it couldn't find it's way out or just barely squeezed in and wouldn't fit back out LOL
Those of you that raise roaches---- just was reading a news story about a guy in FL (I think) that died after a roach eating contest at a pet store. The prize was a snake. None of the other contestants became ill. Craziness!!
Umm just what were the roaches eating... I mean, eating roaches is unthinkable... even for me and I can eat anything that will stay on the spoon of it's own accord or between two pieces of bread (except cabbage of course) (and roaches... but that should go without saying)
A few pics from today

Bambam, stalking in the future bamboo forest! lol Elwood that is your bamboo

Awesome, I will be digging a ton of it out and moving it sometime this winter so will have a lot that I can share if anyone wants it, I'm trying to remember who all I'm supposed to give some to..

Yea, Bill! Glad to see you :)))
Has anyone heard about any bad weather Saturday in the eastern 1/2 of the state?

Mitzi and MJ...LilGuy was a toerag but sure did like him. He would hit my leg every time I got close to the tweo bluie cochin hens he thought were his girls. A feather duster just can't do any damage.

How can top knotted NN's not make you smile?
That one is the back is truuuullllly awesome! I love that bird! Your EE's are so cool looking!
I have 2 Faverolles/Orloff mixes that both happen to be boys, look at that beard :) Every single one of the 4 we've hatched out of my older Faverolles are boys. Not sure I want to hatch any more from him lol But his temperament is so wonderful and that seems to have been passed on to his sons.

Haven't been on in a few days. Had to get the greenhouse built before the freeze and then I got a virus of some kind that laid me out for two days. Brain is still fried. Everything in the incubator is fertile and growing except the turkey eggs. We're on day 14!! We've never got this far with an incubation before with all the eggs fertile and still growing. Of course my daughter added two eggs on Saturday - double yolked duck eggs to see what they would do and they both have twin ducks growing. Here's a pic of one of them. It's not a great pic because we can see blood vessels forming already and the embryos moving. Does anyone know if they can actually hatch with two babies and both of them live?

And here's one of our two and half weeks old meaties out enjoying the yard.

I told my daughter they looked like men running around with their shirts unbuttoned. She said, "Well, they aren't very sexy when they do it either." Lol.

Saddest news of the week ... we went to Stillwater Sunday and when we got home our alpha male tom turkey was dead. We have no idea what happened. They had been sparring some during the week but they'd been fine all weekend before we left. We still have a tom but he's not great and was destined for the soup pot. Of course now if we don't breed him, we have to find another white holland tom for our girls. The whole reason we bought turkeys this year was because we needed a tom for our girls but through all the stupid losses we've had this year with them we only had the two toms left.

At least we haven't had any losses with our meaties this time. No splayed legs, nothing bad. They even roost and try to fly when they get outside. They are so different than our last set of meaties.

Nanakat, this is my first year to grow sweet potatoes, my vines are still good, we didn't have a freeze do I wait for a freeze/frost to harvest?

Usually with sweet potatoes you wait for the vines to die back just like with regular potatoes, however, if they freeze it can harm the tubers. I had to pull mine too because of a freeze otherwise we would have left them until at least the end of the month. Oh and if you wash the tubers before you store them, make sure they are really dry before storing or they will rot.

Kass,
Is that a cat squished on the left end of the couch in your 1st pic? That is a tolerant kitty. Our poor dog is bossed around by 4 cats. You sure do have alot of nice birds.
