I'll take childbirth anyday over spending time at the in-laws, too rofl!! Here's to a fast easy labor with a healthy strong baby!

I got my tiny Zebra Finch pair from Poultry & Bees last night (thank you so very much!) They're flippin' adorable and cheep like a little puppy squeaky toy lol The reason I wanted Diamond Doves &/or Finches was because they can stay in their cages because they're so small and I LOVE their voices!

It's so relaxing in here with the Dove pair cooing and the Finches chattering. Course then my little Serama's running around also and has to belt out a squeaky little crow every now and then, too. The Finches from Mary Beth came with a really nice cage but I'd already had a cage set up for them-so I still have 3 cages :) My Serama will be the only one who gets to be loose though, he only goes in his cage at night. They're all in an 8x30 RV where my computers are, it's my "space" and I love it. So cozy and warm in here when it's cold out. I do have lots of baby wipes and a can of carpet foam to keep the carpeted areas clean-but thankfully my Serama is teeny tiny and it's not much work at all cleaning up after him, plus he can't fly.
Here's the Finches from Mary Beth-love them!

Mitzi, I love them!!!! I haven't been a fan of indoor birds but these almost make me want some! LOL

Pretty birds and I love the cage.....well done! :)

Thanks! I love decorating critter spaces :)

Love finches! Looks like those might be two males! More reason to get more!lol.
Happy Thanksgiving Eve everyone! We will be headed toward Okla. sometime this afternoon! Hope everyone has safe travels and a great Holiday!

Okla! Hello! How are you???
I wondered about the white one being a male also, can you tell with either of these pictures? He/she is mainly white but I can see stripes, faint orange cheeks and spots there on its side. Although.....I was reading a study they did with Finches in particular (but other studies were done with other bird species also). It said males form strong pair-bonds and when adults if introduced to females an average of 5 out of 8 of the male-male pairs stayed with each other instead of the females. It had nothing to do with a sexual nature but they slept next to each other, preened each other and even fostered babies together when given new hatchlings. It's changed my mind on getting a group of Zebra males. Honestly, it doesn't matter if these 2 *are males if they get along this well. I didn't want to breed them, I just didn't want them to be lonely.
Edit-oops had forgotten to add the closeup pics of the white one for you, Okla. Can you tell from these?
PS I'll be glad if they're both boys!

Oh those finches are so cute! I have to admit I've been eyeing finches lately. DH would kill me :p

Joe gave me a scare, he keeled over and was breathing hard, picked him up, almost like he had a seizure of some kind, i gave him egg yolk and started him on denagard- he is breathing hard and i will be surprised if he lasts the day....

Ksane, very pretty finches and I agree you did a great job making the cage "homey" for them.
Okla, nice to see your post.
Robin, I'm sorry your roo is sick.
Ksane and Bill, the freezer for the dubias is working exceptionally well. Better then I even thought it would.

Dang, these suckers can breed :-O I'm overrun with Hissers, too. I'm going to find someone to buy or take the Hissers and make more room for the Dubia. I really really like these Dubia. The Hissers are just too big for most the chickens. Even the big chickens have a hard time with them. It's a huge colony, I'll probably only ask like $30 or so. Dubia are awesome and soft-shelled, I'll always keep them.
ok, got him outside in fresh air, after some meltown in the sun on my lap, he is back to normal- a thought occurred to me, i cleaned this morning, wiped down the window next to his cage with MILD bleach water- am wondering if that could be an issue?

We appear to have a situation.

Cathie, Finches are different that most indoor birds. They're tiny, like 4" with their tails. And they stay in their cages and don't *want human interaction like parrots (and indoor tiny chickens). And they make the sweetest little teeny chattering noises. I think you'd enjoy them.

HAHAHAHA

Evening Primrose won't hurt to use but it works better if you don't take it orally (enough said there lol). Black Cohosh is probably what you took last time it makes contractions for productive.

Um, no it wasn't EPO, it was *cough* OTHER natural methods (There's no blushing smilie??). After reading that post this morning I decided what could it hurt? Since I'd read before that EPO only effects the softening of the cervix, not the uterus itself. Well what do you know about 3 hours later I had a chunk of plug fall out

I'm a believer! Thanks for the suggestion Jcat! Though with my second my plug came out a week before I had her, but it's still nice to see progress :)

I keep saying no indoor birds. Girls were ganging up on me about a parrot the other day. I guess if we have to move back to town I would consider, but now we already have half our stuff in storage.
I have been still trying to seperate the chicken moms from their guinea keets (that are 3/4 grown). Had a hen making all kinds of fuss at the front door screaming at me because I won't let her babies come out & play. We have been alternating days of free range & of course when we let the guineas out they find their way down to the barn to see their mom. Starting to think I may never be able to break up the family bond.

We are having fondue tomorrow-- since DH has to serve the soldiers lunch & we had turkey dinner last Sunday.
Hope everyone has a great thanksgiving & gets a chance to do some great shopping!!! I plan on staying at home & avoiding those crazy deal chasers.

I've got 16 keets in my laundry room. I need to find somewhere else for them cause I have long labors. They need more space and larger waterers to survive a couple of days without me. DH tends to forget the ones inside, of course, I mean when does he ever do laundry

My life as a turkey is about to air on PBS. It's scheduled to show a few more times this weekend. A guy who raised wild turkeys??? Could be enertaining for a bird lover IMO. We are watching Charlie brown @7 but will watch the turkey show tomorrow.

Try Water Quality (405-522-5492) or the WildLife Services Division (405-521-4039)
Both could test the water for contaminants. You have wildlife that visits your pond and you have a right to clean water. Has the sheriff in your county been out to visit with him about burning his trash? If it is illegal, then he could be fined for each time he does burn.
Thanks I'll look into those, I have overlooked his burning trash before till he started dumping it in the ravine and since he just got angry when I tried to have a friendly chat with him about it I'm not inclined to let it go in the future, I never really liked people burning household trash so close to me especially since most of my place is wooded and my house is down in the trees it makes it a lot more risky when anyone west of me is burning anything and since the law states that it is not legal to burn household trash if there is trash service available in the area I will be calling it in in the future,
I just can't understand why people have to be so inconsiderate of their neighbors and unwilling to even talk about things that effect others, I guess I'm just more considerate I don't burn my trash at all I pay for it to be hauled off and I don't even have much maybe a bag or two a month I recycle and compost and buy minimal packaging. I try to not do anything that would adversely effect a neighbor, Well other than it might look like Fred Sanford lives in my front yard LOL but it's mostly blocked from view by the trees that I have and they don't :) one of these days I'll have most of my projects finished and it won't look like that LOL
