***OKIES in the BYC III ***

My husband is Scottish and Polish, my rooster is a Buff Orpington.

Seriously, i am thinking i have to let him go, the rooster of course, but it was a nice rooster. My husband thinks it is since they chickens stop being free range 100 o/o of the time, but i think it is since two hens went broody he has too much testoterone left.
He is not aggresive with the baby chicks, so i am really surprised.
I am going to need to find a method to kill the chickens by myself because my husband does not want part of it. He thinks putting the add in craiglist, and i dont agree on raising a hormone free chicken for others too eat.
I use a pellet gun rifle, the 100 ish dollar one at walmart that has a .22 and a .17, I use the .17 barrel and point blank in a killing cone type set up. No hands on cutting anything, face them away they aren't looking at you they are in the little upside down trance and it is over in a microsecond.

Today watching the tornado coverage and the thousands of Oklahomans helping anyone in need has made me so proud to call Oklahoma my home. I may be a born and bred Californian but I will be an Okie till my dying day.

He had 5 hens, he is down to 2. Two hens are with baby chicks and the other one went broody this saturday. He is close to 1 year old, i bougth him in july about a week old.
I am reading about the culling cones, i will check at Atwoods if the have it.
400

well, a couple thought- buff orps normally aren't aggresive- so, the fact he only has a few hens is part of the problem- i have always heard 8-10 hens minimum- being he is only a year old, i'd consder finding him a no-kill home- or more hens

They are usually made w/ metal flashing, but you can use a traffic cone, or old large bottle / jug. I use a large kitty litter jug. Google it, the principle is just holding the chicken upside down in a restrained manner usually so you can cut the throat, but I use the gun instead.

I have 6 pullets that are 7 weeks old, so he should have plenty in two months are least! I will consider waiting to see if this behaviour change. If my husband is around and turns his back he goes for the attack, always waits until my husband turns its back. With me he runs away and cools down.
The thing is the rooster goes for my husband legs but he wear jeans, the moment he is with shorts the story will change in a second.

Skipping to the end as I am wayyyyy behind. Hoping everyone is safe from these past storms. I have been very busy with friends who lost homes Sunday then different friend on Monday. But luckily they have their lives.

On those waiting on tshirts. I should get them any day but hopefully it avoided the moore po as it was destroyed. My work is in moore which is where its being shipped.

Also hope things went well in Newcastle. Sat was sorry not to make it.

Kassaundra, i know how to cull, but my method involves two people and the husband did help me once and call it the last one. I just put a clorox container in the trash yesterday. My Coq au vin, that is the name of my rooster, may turn on its name if he does no improve.

Today we helped a friend who's property was destroyed by the tornado on Sunday. Could not even get to her house cuz of down power lines on one road and down trees on other side. We chose to clear the tress and let og&e do the power lines.

But good news I got my first quail egg today! And my silkies are laying now. Going to clean out all of the coops and give them fresh straw. Hopefully it will perk them all up so since the weather has been so crazy.
