***OKIES in the BYC III ***

This is not related to chickens at all but are goats good to have? What are their flaws? What are their advantages for having them ?
that all depends on what you want them for? Do you want them for pets or for food/milk or just to clean up the brush.
The bad thing about goats are imop are:

they can be hard to keep fenced in
if they git sick they can go down fast (but not always).

the good things are:

if you have a lot of brush/ poison ivy they will get rid of it.
if you socialize them when they are young they a can be sweet pets.
if you get milk goats they give plenty and they cost less to feeding than a cow.

but like i said just my opinion.

these are the chickens my DH and i are thinking about. in addition to these we would like some olive eggers as well.
what is everyone person experience with these breeds? where would be a good place to get these breeds? i would like to stay more local, but if i cant, well then i cant. also how well do these breeds do in a mixed flock? and if i were to add a roo into the mix what would be the best kind of roo to get? added note: we are planning on getting 2 of each breed, possibly 3 of each breed.

Hi I have 3 Russian Orloffs and I love them they lay well and are very calm you can not go wrong with them

Only the adult intact males are smelly the have a musky urine they spray on them selves, but the girls don't stinck much.

But if you don't keep an intact male you have to take your females to someone who has one for breeding every once in a while (not sure as I don't have goats, but my understanding is every 1-2 years) if you want to keep them in milk.

Another vote for Orloffs. I've got 13 Orloff hens and enjoy them very much. They're very calm and mine are great layers. So pretty! One of my most favorite breeds. The 7 I raised from chicks are as friendly as my little pet Serama, although the 6 I got as adults are super laid back also. I have 2 Orloff/Faverolles roosters that are the most gorgeous boys I've ever seen along with an Orloff/Marans rooster. It seems anything with Orloff in it is just beautiful.

thank you grannychicken54 and Ksane i am very excited about getting some once we have a coop and yard ready
