He's a chunk for sure...I have a dainty little hen with that feather pattern....she's got game looking legs.

Thanks

Morning Old8Cowboy

Oklahoma Lightening...sorry to hear you've been under the weather... Why no humidity in the bater? I was told to spray mist the eggs every day when I hatched the wild turkey eggs. The window unit is a good idea. Keeping the room a constant temp will help the bater stay more constant.

Thank you! Guess I didn't get the notification, so I started searching again this morning. I appreciate it and now that I'm getting the notes, I can keep up!

We had new babies this morning - Showgirls! I just love them, they are so ugly they're cute

Oklahoma Lightening,
So sorry that you have been ill again. It is hard enough to do all that you must do when healthy and being ill would make it three times as hard to get it done.

Have you looked at the unhatched eggs to see if they had too large an air sack? If so, you might consider spritzing the eggs with water every few days while they are in the incubator, to add some humidity if your water resevoir isn't providing sufficient humity. I have only had about a 40% hatch rate on turkey eggs that were being hatched by turkey hens, so I don't have much useful advice. Poults are selling for about $5-7 at auctions right now. Maybe you can pick some up that way. What breeds are you seeking for your Thanksgiving heritage turkeys?

One of the broody hens hatched out 12 blue/black/splash EEs yesterday. I wish I had taken a picture of all those peeps around her in the nest box. We moved her to a large cage with her chicks and she was very calm while being carried - until a chick that she had beneath her wing while being carried - fell out. She went nuts then and it wasn't until she was in the cage with her chicks that she calmed down.

A Malay hen hatched out 3 guinea keets on Saturday and I am pleased that she has accepted them as her own to raise. I don't always have good luck with chickens raising guineas, but she doesn't seem to care that they sound different than chicks. I am debating on whether to also give her the keets that were hatched over the weekend by a turkey hen.

just checked my broody silkie, put some NN eggs under her, at least i THINK they were dragons- all look like they are doing something! another week to go, i think??? yeah i didn't write it down...

Sooner, Gary thinks he found out why no potatoes in the tower. He read you are supose to wait to dig them up for about 3 weeks after the plant is completely dead looking. I thought you were just supose to wait until the plant was yellowing. He read it somewhere on the internet. I still have the 3 towers I will wait until 3 wks after they die, but they are still green. I'll let you know if that makes a differance.

There should have been little potatoes under the vines whether they were green, yellow or brittle brown. We start stealing new potatoes under our vines when they begin to bloom. I suspect that there was too much fertilizer/nitrogen in the mix of soil and you got all tops and very little spuds. Were there even any the size of marbles?

My MIL said that the plant will bloom (quick & you can miss it), the plant will turn yellowish & dry up, you can pick anytime after that. My first set (not in a tire tower) worked just like that but the tired tower didn't turn yellow they just died back. Too much heat I think
