***OKIES in the BYC III ***

That's the same vine I have, and from pics on the internet, wild cucumber was the only thing that looked close to it, but the pics weren't quite clear enough. How neat that you have passion flower growing wild. I wonder if it is an "escaped' plant or is actually a native? I planted it here some years ago, but it went away after only one or two years. It's so neat that our "community" here will work to answer questions of about any kind! Thanks.

Yes, passion vine is native to Oklahoma

I have a couple questions I am sure a bunch of you can answer. :)

What are the signs of a hen going broody? I thought I had one that was, as she would set on a bunch of different eggs (I'm sure they were other hens eggs as some of them were blue), but she is the one that developed the curly toes and died. I just want to be informed of the signs, as I am not sure.

I was also advised to add Brewers Yeast to the feed to help ward off the curly toes, but I don't know how much to use. I have a 30 lb feeder and also a 13 lb feeder and I use the layer pellets. How much crushed Brewers Yeast should I had to the feed in these 2 feeders and will they eat it with the pellets or should I get the crumbles to do this?

Thanks for your help!

Can't answer your brewers yeast question, but a broody hen, will take up residence on "her" nest location won't budge and if you try she will flatten herself like a pancake as far down as she can and ruff her feathers and growl and/or make other prehistoric sound and if you don't back down she will peck the begeezes out of your offending hand. We have one that if Gary (the evil egg stealer) goes into the yard and she happens to be off the nest getting something to eat or taking care of other ness. business will immediately puff up spread her wings as big as she can scream and I do mean SCREAM at the top of her lungs while running for her nest.

Thank you lonnieandrinda. I have heard of the sex links but am not exactly sure what they are. Do they have the real large brown eggs?

I will check with my husband about it. Sorry it took so long to answer, I don't get online every day.

Red Sex links are great hybrid layers. I have six. They have large brown eggs. Nice demeanor. They grow fast and will start laying about four months old.
