***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'm in Mustang and I have two pullets, a suspected New Hampshire Red & an Australorp/NHR mix, you are welcome to if you want them. Nothing fancy but they're healthy and have the right parts. About 16 weeks old. I bought them locally from a couple in Union City.

I would love them, my email is [email protected]. Are they laying already? Just curious :)

Well, I got a surprise today! I woke up to peeping in the incubator and one cute little baby duck.

We've tried for three years to hatch a duck with no success so I was pretty shocked when I heard peeping. I had purposely ignored them all month not wanting to get attached and then be heartbroken again. (my hubby was keeping up with them) But now I'm kind of sad because it's all alone. None of the others hatched out.

To everyone.....looks like there might be another swap in Talequah in October. Coral, are you involved in organizing that or is it all Todd?
I'm not organizing, but I am attending on either Saturday, October 12th or Sunday, October 13th. It's still too far away in my future to commit to the date. I have an amazing NN cockerel to sell as well as a few POL pullets. I'll probably fill a cooler with pop and ice so folks can get an inexpensive thirst quencher when they arrive.

I forgot to mention that I hope to take delivery of my boat trailer coop that weekend. If it's not finished by then, I'll be sure to bring it to other gatherings so people can see it. It's going to be a one-of-a-kind coop, and my hens are going to be spoiled living in it : )

Atwood's in Shawnee has baby ducks and geese.....

Question... I have a hen who lays ostrich-sized eggs, but a coyote got my roo. She's my favorite girl, and she's kind of gimpy, so I'm leery of setting her up with a stud roo who might hurt her. How would I go about getting her set up with a roo in order to get some eggs of hers to incubate to possibly breed some jumbo layers?

Why not learn to AI (artificial insemination) her if you are worried a rooster might hurt her. You will have better fertility.
Also. extra large eggs don't necessarily produce bigger sized birds. Even a chick hatched from a medium sized egg will catch up to a chick hatched from a large egg.

I don't want extra-large birds. I was hoping I might get more birds that lay jumbo eggs like hers. I'm new to the chicken thing, though, so feel free to tell me if my logic is off.
