I have to smile at your post, since I am asking myself why I keep hatching and raising chicks, when I already have a laying flock of more birds than I really need

I do however really enjoy the baby chicks.

Congratulations!!!!!!! ( did I spell that right?)
You are now beyond the point of chicken no return.
Hearing chicks under one of your hens is like the Sirens singing that sailors couldn't resist.

I lost my recipe & had to look up a new one, would you be willing to share yours incase I don't like this one?

Sure it is super easy I have a link in favorites on my computer, but I'm at work right now, I can post the link when I get home. It is 1/3 a bar of fels naptha chipped,(you can use regular bar soap, but the whole bar) in 6 c (i think) water heated until the soap chips melt, then add 1/2 cup each borax and washing soda, mix until dissolved. Mix into 6 c (i think) hot water, then add 1 gal and 6 c water allow to set overnight. (all the water should equal 2 gall, I may be off on some of the cup measures) and I use generous 1/2 cup measurments.

Thanks Kassaundra, if you want just shoot me a link in a PM. I am not spending as much time on the computer lately.
For the one that I just made, it was a QT of boiling water to melt a 2c. shreaded soap (I used my homemade unscented)
till melted. Add 2c each of borax & washing soda. Then 2 gal of water.

Geezz Stimpy, you sure were the thread killer today.. had to come on here to revive it.. ha ha

Really starting to think folks that our americana is gonna be the only chicken momma... all the other eggs are exploding... its so sad to see a healthy chick just keel over from the heat before its had a chance to hatch ...
sad.png
I think its even stressing the mommas out too...

I hope everyone is doing alright in this heat... its a scorcher...

Welcome to BYC ...Great bunch of bird's ...You dont have far to go to the show didnt get to make it last yr///
I like all breed's O.E's are my fav..

MICHAEL D DO you go to many shows? I only made two last year HUTCH.KAN. and Shawnee . I try to make five or six shows in the fall but now my two boys are more into showing Alpacs than they are birds . We kinda like to do ever thing together so maybe we can do some of both this year

Hope everyone got at least a little rain in the past couple of days!
I have a question....I was moving my NN's from a pen where they were getting picked on by my rooster "Sequoyah" who has just declared himself as the dominant roo. A couple of the NN's have scratches on their necks from their adventures with the roo. There seems to be a large pocket, of what I am assuming is puss and swelling, underneath each scratch. Should this be drained, treated with anti- biotics, or what should I do??
Thanks,
Lori
