And this is what happened to the broccoli I gave the chickens....

Here's the freezer camp crew I got from Nanakat. I'm keeping the blue birchen in the front.

Oh that would would be cause for me to get angry as well. Giving you old eggs and saying they are fresh is ridiculous! I can only hope this is a fresh batch. If I only get even just one to hatch though I will be jumping for joy! She was nice enough to give me 4 extra eggs. I'm so excited but hope I do it just right. Give the little things a better chance by doing my "homework" any way. The person who I am borrowing the bator from gave me some of her bantom eggs to hatch for her. I hope I can get some of those to hatch for her. That would be awesome. I am so nervous as to when I should add them. Should I wait or put them in right now? I just started my eggs last night around 6-ish. I would hate to start her eggs then shrink wrap them with the humidity down some. What would you all do? Add the bantom eggs right now or give them one more day? Sorry about all the questions. I just cant find anything on the web to tell me what to do.

That's one of those things that's up to you. If you ask 20 people 10 will say yes and 10 will say no :)
I jack the humidity up all the time for the ones ready to hatch, then back down again after they hatch to let the rest of the eggs continue incubating. I shut the turner off and have to hand turn the newer batch for a few days but that's not even set in stone. I'd put them in now because your friends eggs aren't shipped eggs so it's a mute point.
The Silver Grey Dorkings I won last night. They got christened Lord and Lady Dingwald this morning.

Dorkings??? They had DORKINGS at the auction?? Arggg!! I still can't even find Dorking eggs!
how hard i it to integrate a lone guinea? i do have a couple young ones, being raised by a hen, i could put him in a pen near them, maybe they would accept him??
ksane, are you sure you don't need that frizzle roo from mskitn??? she is desperate to find him a home
Kyzmette! You are so like me! i can't turn my back on a situation like that
I honestly don't know how it works with Guineas. If yours are free range I imagine you could just put him in with them and he'll integrate. He's been raised only with chickens, so he actually might do fine with the younger ones that have been hen raised. He's never been with Guineas.

Those are beautiful birds! Where did you go to get them? I always miss all the good auctions. :hit

That auction is in Coweta, about 25 miles east/southeast of Tulsa. It's the third Friday of the month at the Wagoner County Fairgrounds. If you're in this area you should go with us.

I was really sad Cathie Sue didn't get to go with us. I picked up a dozen so-called Americauna eggs that are getting ready to go in the bator to see if we can hatch her a colored egger or two. I also picked up another roo I have to post a picture of. I snagged him with Cathie Sue in mind, but I really like the guy. Which is a big problem, because I have a roo invasion going on at my place right now.

Yup, I'm in trouble. The auctioneer said this guy is Araucana, although I have my doubts about the pureness of that statement. Nobody wanted him, so I got him as the last bird on auction, while everybody was in line to pay, for $4.50. He's so easygoing I sat down with him to look him over and we ended up just sitting here, watching tv and chilling for a while. He lets me pet him and he makes little growly noises, like a chicken purr.

The problem is, he's definitely all roo, and I don't know where to keep him until the big pen is finished. I'll have to build another temp pen to hold him.

Kyz, he could actually be an Araucana. I hatched out some nice quality Aras last year and most had tails. 1 was marked exactly like that boy. He has the shape, comb and leg color of an Araucana. Sounds like the temperament, too. Then again he culd also be an Easter Egger, few auction people know the difference unless they keep those breeds themselves. He's beautiful.

Jeez. Literally overnight my Dark Brahma girl lost her feathers. It's her 1st molt and she'll be 2 in Feb so it's going to be a bad one :-o
The 2nd pic is one of her sisters who hasn't started molting yet.

Oh poor girl! It seems crazy that they molt so late in the fall. It worries me with my girls because the cold days/nights we have been getting...

I think that White Butt is very cool looking! How can you tell that someone is carrying the sc gene? (and what is that exactly - I think I've forgotten)
Sc is scaleless, they will have a missing row of scales longwise on thier legs. If a carrier they have even less feathering then a nn, and if they "express" they will be featherless.
