***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I don't know yet, Kass. I was going to let them sit under the heatlamp overnight to make sure they weren't just hibernating from hypothermia, then candle them tonight. Dorcus and Zima are very unhappy that I moved their heatlamp. I expect to get home and find them sitting in with the eggs.

Great day in Tahlequah with great people yesterday.

Horrible night at home. It could have been worse, but it was pretty bad. I checked everybody out, then went inside and found the incubator with all of Cathie Sue's eggs at 73F... room temperature. And all the eggs were cold to the touch, so it was like that all day. I set them up under a heat lamp and will candle them tonight, but I expect all of them to be a loss. I'm going to exchange this incubator (again), but I'm going to seriously put effort into replacing the type before the new year. I wouldn't expect the exchanged bator to work through more than two hatches. Stupid styrofoam junk.

Then, around 8:00 as I was getting ready for bed, I started hearing the now-familiar sounds of the little Buff Brahma girl's seizures. I had thought she was getting better. She started a round of seizures that were near constant for the next two hours. I would hold her and stroke her and she would come out of one for almost a minute, then go straight into another one. I think maybe it was because I was gone for most of the day and wasn't there to water her or give her vitamins. I just know that if I can get her over this hump, she'll get better, but when she starts this I truly expect her to die in my hands. My heart breaks for her.
i have a friend on Facebook that found her broody had abandoned the nest- a day at 40 degrees, and darned if those babies didn't hatch in the incubator..

on your girl with seizures, what treatments are you giving her?

The little buff is getting straight poly-visol drops along with additional vitamin E (squeezed out of a gel cap), tubefeeds of supplemental water and medicated crumble mixed with plain yogurt. I've read and Dusti has suggested that I also supplement with selenium, and I was thinking of getting additional B vitamins, as well.

Any suggestions you have would be immensely appreciated. We're running on the theory that this is a severe case of wry neck.

My best guess after feeling it didn't sound like sepsis from the suspected broken bone reasoning for her being lame is neurological dysfunction from vitamin or mineral deficiency since she was not fed for at least 4 days prior the auction.

Hi everyone!!
I have been lurking for the last week but really too worn out to post. The flock is doing well. I did have a casualty of the ice but it was because a support pole fell and killed one of my roos.. Stupid me for not making sure it was better set. I did get the wind blocks up for everyone to get out of the cold during nasty weather....
My bourbon red turkey flock is doing great. I have 13 hens and 5 toms. If anyone is interested I am selling a couple of the toms. The oldest (1 year old) is about 30lbs and the jake is about 25lbs. But I am not sure about selling the jake, he is really, really nice. I am hoping next year will be a good year for eggs and chicks. Probably going to have to break out the bator....
Also I have some black and blue cochins that are standard not LF. If anyone is interested in them let me know.
Doc and I are planning on going to Newcastle Saturday. Going to take all the birds we not keeping over the winter...
If anyone is interested I have some kittens that need good homes. One is Egg, he is a little older kitten about 5 months. He is white except his ears, nose and tail are orange and he has blue eyes, hence the name Egg. I have another male who is a bleached out orange tabby, I posted pics of him before. We call him Apollo but he really doesn't know his name. Then there is Badger. Badger is black long haired with gray strips down her back (hence the name Badger). She also has 24 toes.. They are really good kittens and have been socialized since the day they were born...
Well it is only three weeks til Winter Break.. Whoot! Whoot! I am so looking forward to the break... This has been a rough year, so far and I am hoping the second half will be better.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and an even better week!!!

So want to know if it was just me - or if this is fairly common. Started with 11 silkies chicks, but now down to 6. Two of them started acting wrong - sedentary, then were dead the next day. These tended to be smaller ones that were not 'thriving' as much as the others. Three of them were just dead - no warning behaviors. They generally seem to be healthy, eating and drinking well. Vitamns in the water and good temperature.

Buffy girl seems to be doing better today, thank heavens.I added B complex and selenium to her regimen. I haven't seen a seizure yet tonight.

I swear by the time I retire from work I'm going to know so much about chicken trauma and illness that I can take up being a chicken healer as a hobby.

Bardles- what feed are you using? What bedding are they on? Listless and fluffed could be cocci, could be alot of things going on, i had one hatch last year of 6, they were doing good then bam- only one survivor- i suspect cocci was the culpret on that one- here is a chick booster- from NNbreeder he uses it with his

Kyz here is some wryneck info
