***OKIES in the BYC III ***

If she has free air it will be obvious air pockets, the skin will be bulging and "squishy". (think balloon)

The only thing I know that helps a ruptured air sac is time. The bigger worry if it is that, is why it ruptured in the first place. If she does have free air it will need to be expressed (needle aspiration or tiny lance in the air pocket.

It has been too long since I have checked in! Those SFH babies look SO amazing!!! I would LOVE to get at least one hen just to add to my flock. So if anyone wants to send just one my way...

So... I have been really doing some chicken math since I have gotten the five LOs. They are now 7 weeks old and I built a little run for them and just had hubby help me build a little A frame box just big enough for them and the silkies. Once the LOs are moved out to the other coop then we start on our silkie flock and then they can stay in there. While working on it my hubby mentioned that he realizes that my chicken obsession is going to get out of hand and he is going to build another coop later on. Hehehehehe. I'm so glad that he realizes that sooner than later. It is so much healthier for him. Lol!
On another chicken math note, my Splash Marans eggs are due to hatch this week. Tomorrow is day 17 and so far 10 out of 12 have made it thus far. I will find out who makes it to lock down tomorrow evening. Crossing my fingers for a good hatch!!!

Then wait...

Now I TOTALLY understand why incubating eggs is so addictive!!!!!

ok, will look her over tomorrow, i checked her tonite and no more bleeding, but her comb is still dark- so i would treat it like you do the capons when they get air puffs?

True- not only are hatching them addicting, then with silkies who tend to take over, then they go broody and there is nothing so cute is a mama silkie and chicks!

Great day in Tahlequah with great people yesterday.

Horrible night at home. It could have been worse, but it was pretty bad. I checked everybody out, then went inside and found the incubator with all of Cathie Sue's eggs at 73F... room temperature. And all the eggs were cold to the touch, so it was like that all day. I set them up under a heat lamp and will candle them tonight, but I expect all of them to be a loss. I'm going to exchange this incubator (again), but I'm going to seriously put effort into replacing the type before the new year. I wouldn't expect the exchanged bator to work through more than two hatches. Stupid styrofoam junk.

Then, around 8:00 as I was getting ready for bed, I started hearing the now-familiar sounds of the little Buff Brahma girl's seizures. I had thought she was getting better. She started a round of seizures that were near constant for the next two hours. I would hold her and stroke her and she would come out of one for almost a minute, then go straight into another one. I think maybe it was because I was gone for most of the day and wasn't there to water her or give her vitamins. I just know that if I can get her over this hump, she'll get better, but when she starts this I truly expect her to die in my hands. My heart breaks for her.

So sorry to hear! How far along were the eggs? If they were in there for only a short while so far, maybe they went dormant again? :( It is hard to see a sweet (or even not so sweet) bird suffer. The good thing is I don't think they get afraid like people do. This may be her 'normal'...
