Oh no Robin. Hope you find your MIA chicken safe and sound.

Well, this girl is from this years hatch and loves hopping the fence- went to check one more time and she was asleep on the work table next to the coop waiting to come in... she got a good talking to

i am thinking mama was one of the light brahamas

It isn't that the cold determines the sex of the egg, it is the stress (in this case cold, but any other stressor will do it too) that kills the more fragile female embryos, leaving more % of the hardier male embryos to hatch. Same thing happens w/ a stressful incubation (to hot or dry or incubator gets to cold etc..) more males will survive the assault then females. (at least that is what I have seen posted many many times on other threads and sites)
That's what I meant, too.

Oh no Robin. Hope you find your MIA chicken safe and sound.

Good morning all.

Robyn...sorry to hear about you losses but glad you found Miss Naughty!

The calf spent most of the day yesterday outside in the lot and in a nest in the barn under a heat lamp. mom is still distant, but did follow him around the pen after both squeeze chute feedings.

He followed me back to the house at7:30 pm for his last bottle. He has been given a small bottle this morning and goes back out to the barn when I takeout the dogs. He will be hungry. We will watch and see if mom will let him nurse outside the chute.....if not in the chute she goes again. Keep your fingers crossed.

Looking forward to the show Saturday. Lunch at Abueleta's at 11:30 ...meeting old friends and new.
DGibson mentioned the other day about setting up coop cages today.
