***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have a non-show Maran that should be laying chocolate eggs this summer. I also have what I believe to be show quality Buff Brahma Bantams, a rooster and a hen, that I've been trying to find a home for, but I'd rather rehome them together.

I am restarting my flock. I live in the city. Technically there is no ordinance against roosters, but I want to be a good neighbor. I am getting a pair from BetsyOK and those will be my show chickens. So I need 6 more for egg layers. :) I have my preferences... but really I like all types of chickens. I would preferr a double purpose breed for eggs and meat, but eggs are the priority.

We are looking to start hatching eggs for my daughter's 4H project. So I need to find a steady supply of fertile eggs too.

Skiatook is not to far for me to drive, if I ever have the vehicle. We are a one car family, and my hubby works two jobs and goes to school full time, so most of the time we have to walk or take the bus if we go anywhere. I have a safe pen, with a coop elevated off the ground. Right now the run is just covered in chicken wire and bird netting, but we are going to reinforce the bottom half with heavy grade field fencing and plywood. The top is enclosed to keep the hens in and the hawks out.
I guess you would be able to get to stillwater then they have an auction that sales poultry and eggs it is every Saturday. It is called the Guy Rose auction.

The auction in Coweta runs through around 9:00 or 10:00, depending on how many birds they have. There might not be a lot left, if anything, if you get there around 9:00.

How-day!! to all the newbies I have not met yet! True your kids are in 4H? Mine are too. Our girls are in a club in Broken Arrow, theYFR 4H club. It would be fun to get together at a 4H event some time! :)

I think I have seen you at the 4H meetings at Broken Arrow, we are pretty new there and my daughter is in the Cloverbuds. I have talked to your older daughter a few times, she is very friendly. My daughter is 5 so it will be a few years until we can get into showing chickens but I'm looking forward to it!

Oh, and my daughter is going to be taking my 6-yr-old granddaughter to the YFR 4-H in Broken Arrow! I'm going to try to get out there with her the first time, and maybe a few events after that. She's who I just picked up the show blue Marans for.

How long does it normally run? I don't get off till 8 if (I don't get sent home early). My hubby agreed to take me after work if it is still going. :)

It seems to run fairly late, I'd say 11 or 11:30. I'd say it's worth stopping by, you can walk down the sales line to see if there is anything to your liking left and go home right away if there isn't.

Kim, that white Silkie cracks me up lmao! Staring down at that pile of poop like somebody else did it haha!
One of my Sizzles is a Blue or Silver Partridge. I finally figured out the feathers-there's Sizzles, Frizzles, Silkie feathered and normal feathered in this hatch of 9. Confusing as can be. She said none of hers were mixed with Cochin to get the Frizzle gene but 5 of them have straight combs and 5 also have normal chicken feathers and are already flyers. But all are shaped just like bearded Silkies with feathered legs and 5 toes. For pets they're perfect but I'm so glad you didn't end up taking any for your kids to show, they'd have all been disqualified :-D
Shelby, sex links are wonderful, my husbands favorite.

Yes that would be me and my girls!

She (my oldest) is the social one. I am the shy one in person. :) My youngest is 5 and LOVES cloverbuds. We are very very lucky to have YFR. The Hunts are the best leaders.

I look forward to meeting you and your daughter and grand daughter! Let me know when you come and I will be sure to look for you.

I would be interested in the maran. Since I can't take another rooster I probably would not be a good fit for the Brahmas though. Let me know how much you want for the maran.

Thanks Rinda! I think we might brave the weather. Might not. We will have to see how things are when we get off. I am hoping to at least score some eggs to set in an incubator.

But if not. I just want to see some chickens and get out of the house. It might even be like a date night. :)

They sell the hatching eggs first, so don't count on that. But it's a great place to check out other chicken keepers and take down names of those who will have eggs later!
