***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Okay Okie peeps, I participate in a weekly photo challenge and this week the challenge was self portrait I have narrowed it down to 2 choices, but can only pick one to enter. This photo challenge group is just for fun, there is no "winner" or prize or anything like that. Help me decide which to submit. These were both taken today (in the challenge the pics have to be taken the week of the challenge)

I like the second one, more expression and more of just you in general captured.

Very nice photo, I think!

I have a new one for you all. I found one of my 1 1/2 mo old cockerels dead this evening and bloody poop in the crate. So now I have to treat these babies for something. I thought the only ones that wernt sick were doing so good then BAM. When it rains it pours. I am scratching my head though because I keep their crate clean and dry. Even the neighbor kid makes fun of me on how often I clean it. I give fresh water every day, clean the waterer and feeder, give them medicated feed (I am disappointed it didn't do it's job of prevention). I seriously keep them in tip top shape the best I can because I am so afraid of them getting this crud. The only thing is my hubby got me aspen shavings and I used it for a little over a week then changed back to pine yesterday. I gave them sand but I baked it before hand and they had it before and never did this. So... where do I get Corid at this hour on a Sunday? I have them drinking milk as it was suggested before... If I can't get the Corid tonight where do I go to get it tomorrow?
With all the sickness going around here I promise I am VERY clean with my animals and I have never had such problems as I am having right now. Right now all the bigger birds are doing really well but then this happens to my babies. Not to mention I lose our little "Pasty Butt" tonight. (He had pasty butt since he hatched... don't know if there was anything wrong since then but he always had a dirty tush that I had to wash and dry daily. He got use to the hair drier really quick. Poor guy. So the he adopted the name Pasty Butt".)

Tractor Supply carries Corid, but it's closed for the night.

I'm so sorry you lost your big chickie and your little pasty butt. If I were closer, I'd bring you some of my Corid. You can't protect your flock from wild bird poop. Not unless you want to raise bubble chookies.

So sorry to hear of all the trouble. Sometimes you just can't stop things no matter how careful or clean you are! I have come to the conclusion medicated feed is basically useless. It has so little medication in it that it can't really prevent cocci. I would try Atwoods or Tractor Supply for the Corid, or another nearby feed store (might call first). It comes in both powder and liquid form. I sent you dosing details in a PM.

Oh, after you finish the 10 day corrid treatment give them vitamins in their water for a few days (important to do this AFTER and not DURING treatment) because the cocci medicine robs their bodies of certain vitamins, I forget which ones offhand.

Pasty-butt boy may have had internal problems. Pasty butt is a sign of stress in chicks (too hot, too cold, etc) so I would guess there was something going on that you could not fix.

Oh, and when you stop at TSC for the Corid, pick up the probiotic, too. Corid will clear out the good bacteria and you'll have to help them replace it. And I would treat the whole flock, because it spreads fast

If you cant find Corid tomorrow, give a shout and maybe we can arrange something, somehow. Are you in the Tulsa area?

@TRUE5 I can probably bring you a little Corid tomorrow when I meet you, I only have a partial packet of the powder but it would give you a start until you can locate some.

Rinda, I'm going to try to get to Atwoods tomorrow morning first thing and start treatment before I leave home. I'm just paranoid like that.

@Shelbydog I LOVE those beards! If I had a bunch of them I would end up naming them all after the Dwarves from the Hobbit. May as well since my son already named our lav orp cockerel Thorin. HA!

Thank you all for the guidance. I'm running to Atwoods as soon as my feet hit the floor even if I am in my PJ's and crazy hair while dragging my kids behind me! That should be a sight and give them something to talk about for the rest of the day! I just hope these babies take to treatment quickly and I'm not too late...

EDIT: @Kyzmette What Probiotic do I get? These guys are separate from my outside flock so treatment should be kept more simple since it's only one of those small waterers.
