***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Welcome Bearwood! Good luck on your "just started" flock of chickens - sounds like you have some nice breeds. Northern Idaho is beautiful. Where in OK is your dad's family from?

Oh my! I love your setup MJ - so cute and looks so nice in your garden area.

NanaKat - thank you so much for the primer on the garden shade arch - you are so wonderful to take the time to share the information along with pictures.

Lynn, Nocityboy and NanaKat - I enjoy your informative lessons about goats - thanks!

What is this Okie Roll Call?

Edited: Oh, never mind. I found it. Gah. I'm sorry. Didn't notice the clickable link what was RIGHT THERE for some reason. I'm actually on the roll call. Who knew?

Good morning Okies!

I have been kinda busy this week... Mostly getting DH off to work early this week... Not use to getting up early... But we have been enjoying each others company.

I didn't know it was possible for a coon to get to chicks through quarter inch hardware cloth but it is.

Lost four more last night. Different pens than last time. These are three to four feet off the ground and made of wood and hardware cloth.
Three chicks had their legs pulled off through the wire. I guess we didn't have enough traps set. There will be plenty set tonight.

I'm in for a short break. I've been piling branches that fell or had to be cut after the last wind storm. Some are sappy or quite green, so they're really heavy. I put some of the leafy branches into chicken pens so the birds would have something to do. They're roosting, hopping, and bug hunting. DH pointed out a few he wished had fallen because they cross the drive. I'll cut those when it gets cooler, later, maybe around supper time.

Thank you for the compliments Ladies.
It amazes my hubby and BIL that I get out there and cut, saw, drill, and sand stuff on the "Man" toys...aaaaa....tools. I usually draw a diagram to show them what I'm contemplating. For the pen, I made a "to scale model" to work out the kinks. It's too hot to have to rearrange things when there is a design problem. I enjoy being outdoors....just have to take my time doing things....not a young and energetic as when younger. Used to be an art teacher and loved geometry in HS....so I like the creative side of stuff.

Gerald & Carla...the 23 turkey eggs we got from you for my daughter had only 1 quitter...1 quitter and that was an undersized Bourbon Red egg...22 good, healthy wigglers went to lockdown 10 minutes ago!!! I will say it again to all, you will not find better hatching eggs ANYWHERE...period. I dont know if its the water in Tuttle, but you two really do have an awesome farm, quality birds & eggs, and just real good folks. Gerald, thanks again buddy, I will upload pics once they start the turkey mosh pit in the incubator!
