***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Kass - Resting on Saturday is a good plan. Thanks for thinking ahead.

Ksane - Bring on the coffee maker!

I will have whole cream for those who dare to use it.

Kyzmette - No problem. Your babies are adorable. They are excellent house guests.

Muesky - I'm still checking to see if the last Friday of each month will be a Crozier auction at Checota. They start at six with cages, gear, and odds and ends. After that they sell hatching eggs and chicks. Next, they swell chickens, rabbits, ducks, geese, peacocks, etc.

Kyzmette...you will enjoy the huge white eggs from your Minorcas. I have two left from my hatchery birds purchased 5 years ago. They are standoffish but are laying machines. I love their small boat shape and floppy combs.

Muesky, the melted snow should refreeze tonight and Moore may call off school in the morning.

I don't think the "@" thing works with my iPad, I know it does with my Android and Windows. I'll give it a shot anyway.

@Bardies-that's a beautiful calf! I've bottle raised 2 calves over the years and they just don't tame up like goats and sheep even if they're bottle fed.

@Jeansrie, I got 9 in my hatch of Sizzles out of 10 eggs. However I did lose 3 so only have 6 left. Some of mine are straight feathered & a few have straight (black) combs. Not sure what's up with that. I did get a single Black Frizzle and a Blue Partridge Sizzle who are beautiful. They all have black skin and 5 toes with heavy feathered legs. There was a straight comb in the woodpile somewhere though.

@Kassaundra and @Poco Pollo, My husband just got one of those Keurig coffee makers and OMG it makes the most awesome coffee! In seconds! So I thought for the Capon Clinic I could bring it and a huge variety of different varieties of their coffees. Each little K-cup makes a 14 ounce cup and there's tons of flavors. I'll bring honey for sweetener (way better than sugar) and some artificial sweetener and cream also. You can't tell me a bunch of Okie women hopped up on caffeine can't chop off a bit of rooster manhood :)
@Ksane , I've had a few best buddies that have been cows - and one bottle calf that 'called' me mama until we sold her (she was 2 then) ....so you need to meet some different cows, I think.

The horse commercial - my favorite - about the horse that left the hitch to see the guy that raised him - the guy that saw a runaway horse and got out to help - only to realize that it was his baby that was coming to say hi. Gets me every time...then the new one - about the puppy that was the horses friend - and that was prevented from being taken away by a potential adopter by a bunch of horses....

We've got a cold spell coming in - PLUS the snow - stay warm and safe, everyone....sorry to those folks that still have school - perhaps they will wise up by morning time...

There's a chill in the air,
And there's snow everywhere,
Chicks are warm in their lair
Broodies act like a bear.
And the breeders are loving their grain on the ground
While the humans are snuggled again in their home.
( to the tune of an old hymn that memory hasn't found the name ....yet)

Those were my favorites too, I also loved the doritos commercial about the time traveling neighbor.

Quick question, if you pick out a trio to breed, and they have been in a flock, how long do you have to wait to make sure the eggs are fertilized by the rooster you picked to breed with them to make sure he is the father and not another rooster.

Thanks
2 weeks minimum, if you want to be absolutely sure I would wait 3 weeks.

Thanks! He is probably the fanciest thing we have made so far....hard to see, but he almost has an appaloosa like blanket on his butt.

He is a cutie!!
