***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Yes, but I used auto focus. I know there is snow in the picture, but it was melting, which is why I got so excited. There is a lot of shade under and near the pine trees, so the snow lasts the longest there.

She's a silver laced wyandotte pullet.

Just couldn't resist!

Poco, that picture is awesome. Robin, I'm pretty sure it's a Silver Laced Wyandotte. I have seriously got to get some Wyandottes at some point.
Kass, the boys have a good healthy appetite. I was glad to see they didn't seem stressed and ate immediately. The "known slip" is in love with the Spitzhauben girls, the Spitz pen is in front of where I put the boys & he crowed at the girls all afternoon lol I really like them a lot and I appreciate very much having them :) It was my husband's birthday today, everyone who called him asked what he got for his birthday-he told them he got a couple of roosters.

Guess he likes his ladies a little more modest, not so bare chested!!! lol lol lol

I have pics of the new fusion quilt I'm working on, got it to the layout stage yesterday and took a few pics. Both sets of squares the pieced side and the crocheted flowers are from swaps here on byc.

I really love this layout.

I have quite a bit of crocheting to do on this side, I am going to follow the basic design on the front and crochet colored sashing around each flower and am going to put my MIL's cancer ribbon in the middle of the "flower garden"
Are the crochet flowers going to be put onto the quilted part? I think it would look very cool to have the multi medium garden!

I am going to crochet around each of the flower squares to imitate the square they are sitting ontop of (the border types) then construct the back side to look very similar to the front except w/ crochet and flowers instead of stars.

When it is finished one side will be fabric quilt and the other crocheted afghan.

The snow is melting! The snow is melting!

I'm ready for warmer weather, as are my pullets. Sure would like to see some eggs again : )
Beautiful pic Poco!

I am bummed out, out of the 17 shipped silkie eggs in my incubator on day 10 i only have one baby...

I guess that's what I get with shipped eggs. I had just hoped for more since this was my first hatch. I will try to find hatching eggs local for the next hatch. Not giving up, just disappointed is all.
Oh man....

.... I totally understand - happened to me. Hatching eggs (or trying to) can suck some times.

Let folks know what breeds- that little guy that hatches will get super spoiled by you too, an idea, get some local eggs and put them in the bator, that way he will have buddies - even after a couple weeks, he would enjoy the company

Oh no! Where and who did the eggs come from? Did you let them know? If it has happened to no only you with their eggs then it could be something wrong with them not being fertile? Or maybe it just got too cold during the route? Just a thought. I had some shipped from Texas three months ago and had a pretty decent hatch from them. I would much rather pick up my eggs than have them shipped but sometimes when those arnt available even close to your area you do what you have to do and take the risks. I will be having some eggs shipped all the way from Washington in a few weeks.

It's going to be super risky but I couldn't pass up a good deal so I won't be out a whole lot if they don't hatch. I'm still praying they do ok in the shipment! Don't get too discouraged.

The roller coaster weather plays havoc on fertility on eggs. Too chilled an egg just isn't the best environment for an embryo. I've stopped collecting from the outside pens during these temps. If I found a hen on an egg in the outside pens, I was collecting it and marking it "cold". Often when I candle those are not making it to 10 days. So only those eggs from the inside pens are making it to the egg turner until this weather settles.
Next week with the temps in the 70s might help.some outside pens for a short time.
I've heard that frostbite on combs will affect the cock bird's fertility. But, I haven't read any research on that.

Greenbeetle, please notify the thread leader on the auction about your eggs if you bought them on the online BYC auction. If the eggs were not fertile, she is keeping records on those who ship out bad eggs.

I have two Delaware Bantam hens in an inside pen that are hatching eggs. Yesterday there were two already dry. One had gotten out of the nest and the new moms didn't know to call it back so it perished. The dry baby is inside with another chick in the brooder . I will check several times today, bring in the babies, keep them warm and then take them back to the moms when they are strong enough to hop back in the nest. When babies are the size of an English walnut, the cold gets them quick.
