***OKIES in the BYC III ***

If it is a hairline fx like I think an x ray won't change it, and they can't do anything about it so I don't see the need to expose myself to radiation and rack up a 1500 bill. There is no deformity, crepitus, or ROM (range of motion) issues. I am being very careful w/ it today, not being "on it" to much, resting and elevating, no ice though it is much to sensitive to touch right now, I can barely stand the light fabric of my pants brushing against it.

Thanks, and that is what I was going for, I'm glad it comes across.

Well, if I guessed it You must know that' it is really good
The roller coaster weather plays havoc on fertility on eggs. Too chilled an egg just isn't the best environment for an embryo. I've stopped collecting from the outside pens during these temps. If I found a hen on an egg in the outside pens, I was collecting it and marking it "cold". Often when I candle those are not making it to 10 days. So only those eggs from the inside pens are making it to the egg turner until this weather settles.
Next week with the temps in the 70s might help.some outside pens for a short time.
I've heard that frostbite on combs will affect the cock bird's fertility. But, I haven't read any research on that.

Greenbeetle, please notify the thread leader on the auction about your eggs if you bought them on the online BYC auction. If the eggs were not fertile, she is keeping records on those who ship out bad eggs.

I have two Delaware Bantam hens in an inside pen that are hatching eggs. Yesterday there were two already dry. One had gotten out of the nest and the new moms didn't know to call it back so it perished. The dry baby is inside with another chick in the brooder . I will check several times today, bring in the babies, keep them warm and then take them back to the moms when they are strong enough to hop back in the nest. When babies are the size of an English walnut, the cold gets them quick.
Is that the hens we saw laying when we were thre? Sorry u lost one

I have COUPLE OF 41/2 MONTH OLD PULLETS THAT ARE SNEEZING I'm bringing them in the house, but am going to put them in the laundry room. I hope my babies are far enough away. Is it better to give the sick ones polu vi sol or red cell and how much? After two years these will be my first sick pullets. Should I treat them like a virus or give anti biotics. Hubby wants tet for sure or tylan 50, but I don't know how much tylan to give. He says it never hurts because in chickens uusually end up with a secondary infection, even if it is a virus? I found out on another site that ucdavis will take blood samples for $4! U just pull the blood yourself an put it in the proper tube and mail it. I can send the link if anyone wants it. Do u think it's this back and forth weather that gave them a cold?

I slipped and fell on my knee, the same one I hurt a month or so ago, it was still sore from the first injury, now it is really hurting. I don't think I did any structural damage (either time) but since the pain is so intense and lasted such a long time I figured I hairline fractured the bone.
I agree with Kyzmette. You need to go get an x ray. U should know better, being a paramedic. I'm old enoung to scold u LOL

Kass, I hadn't read your reply yet to Kyzmette. Don't u have insurancewith your job? If it is a hairline you're right itwont't change except you'll wear an annoying brace which Icanlend u,but what ifit's something different?

Yes I do have insurance, but between the deductible and the co-payment % it would still be around $500 ish. I'll keep an eye on it, I know what to look for if it isn't getting better or if it needs more care then I can give it. And even not considering the money part I don't want to be irradiated any more then is ness.
