***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I slipped and fell on my knee, the same one I hurt a month or so ago, it was still sore from the first injury, now it is really hurting. I don't think I did any structural damage (either time) but since the pain is so intense and lasted such a long time I figured I hairline fractured the bone.
ouch sorry hope it gets better soon

Kass, sorry to hear about your knee. sure hope it is not fractured. Mine has a deposit of calcium that has developed over the two years. Sounds like you know what to expect.

Diana, I like to start treating sneezing with Gallimycin (erythromycin) in their drinking water. Especially if you begin to see bubbly eyes. Wild birds bring in so much crud to the feeders and water containers. And I give Tylan50: 1/2 cc in the breast meat for a large fowl. Also helpful for the "cold" symptoms is the medicated hog starter with Tetracycline. Denegaard I'd also a good treatment in water. That gives you a choice depending on what you have on hand.

Yes, the Delaware's were laying when you were here and two decided to share a nest. I held eggs and gave them 9 marked eggs. Have a baby zipped in the incubator that should finish out soon that I brought in earlier today. In addition, I have eggs that have been in the incubator ready to hatch on the 12. I can add these to what the hens hatch.

Ksane how are the "Twins" adjusting? Still making eyes at the Spitz girls??? That will make their ladies a bit jealous
They're doing just fine! The one is still crowing constantly at the Spitz girls. The Spitz boy keeps ushering them away from his eyesight. I do think it's their fancy hats he likes along with all the hair on their chests compared to the girls he's used to

I hear you on the knee, I know where you're coming from. So many unnecessary tests when the treatment is "just let it heal". I hope you feel better soon. The snow tonight is supposedly going to be the last for awhile (I don't believe a word they say). Hopefully this cold horrible weather is over, I've completely had it.

Yes I do have insurance, but between the deductible and the co-payment % it would still be around $500 ish. I'll keep an eye on it, I know what to look for if it isn't getting better or if it needs more care then I can give it. And even not considering the money part I don't want to be irradiated any more then is ness.
I wasn't trying to be nosey, just worried about u.I know what u mean about insurance, we have two and still have so many bills that we're pretty close to paupers. Hopefully the new Dr. I saw Friday will be able to do it all and I won't have to keep going to other specialist. Just take care of yourself. I have a son who is a paramedic and he's the same way. I thought it was a guy thing, but I guess not. Just this little wind we had tonight made chores miserable for me. I didn't even get cold last night.

Thanks for the info. I have it all on hand. No bad eyes yet. Just sneezing and a little coughing. The wild birds have been in the chicken yard a lot since the snow, Maybe I should get wild bird feed and put hangers up where they don't get near the chicken yard, although the chickens seem to have no boundaries when they are free ranging and. do get in the front yard sometimes. Glad things are going well with the Delawares chicks. I've never had any luck if any of mine want to share a nest. How much rd cell do I give?

How much rd cell do I give?

Red Cell is a blood booster helping the body move medicine quicker thru the bloodstream....a little dab will do....
I mix a Tbs to a pint of water and then use 1 tsp of this solution to a cup of water. Comes out to a drop or two per cup of water.
OR you can use your dry food mix and a tsp of Red Cell in a pint of feed, then mix well in a gallon ziplock bag. For each 1/4 cup of treated feed add 3/4 cup untreated feed.

People in the medical field generally have to be near death to go to the Dr/ER, and we make the absolute worst pt's.
My Dr. fears the thought of himself be admitted as a patient in a Hospital. I've been there a few times, and it's scary.
Got fed breakfast via I.V. once. Wrong patient.
Was given a bunch of meds to take, and the nurse got frustrated because I asked her to name them off. Wrong Room. Duh !
Went to emergency with my heart, and they stuck me in the stomach with a big needle. Later, a nurse came in with another big needle, and I told her I'd already had one of those in my stomach. She made a call, and they confirmed what I said.
If you're not healthy when you go in, you may not make it out.

Does anyone feed Proso Millet (White Millet ~ Broom Corn) to their chickens ? I had some , and for a treat, I threw some out to my bantams , and they really enjoyed picking those little kernels off the ground. Now, they gang all around me wanting some more. It's about as high in protein as wheat, higher than corn, but not as fattening. Studies supposedly show good egg production feeding it too. Only problem I see is it's hard to obtain reasonably for poultry..

isn't that the seed in finch food? little white seeds? My guys love it when i give it to them, not very often though-

Doc Foster catalog for parrots is a source. You can order the millet in fronds in a five pound box. For a small flock it is reasonable for a treat...but not for my large numbers.

The snow missed us but we may get a little rain later this morning.
