***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Starting to worry about my hatch. Have 29 eggs that looked good at lockdown. Had one hatch this morning and two are zipping but no other pips and I just hit the end of day 21. The three that are zipping are mine none of the shipped eggs.
i let mine go for at least day 28, just to be sure

@TRUE5 on the cds, string them long enough that they will twirl in the breeze, ohhh a couple feet at least

another pic of hannah from tonight, she is so sweet

Speaking of hawk... Robin was just asking me if I had many predators and I said no because since we put up a fence we haven't. Then she asked about hawks. I never had any but the neighbor kid had. Well, Robin, right after you left there was a hawk in the tree that is just over yonder (too close for comfort!). My husband spotted it and tried to shoot it... and sadly missed. After he shot there was another that flew off behind it! Those dad gum things better stay away!!!

I went through boxes and found some cd's and placed them randomly in the back yard. Do they need to be tied to a string and dangled because I just pretty much placed them in random places that would catch the sun or reflect light. HAHA Hubby was against putting things like that around the back yard before but after seeing two hawks he was asking if I needed to put out more!

Secretly he likes my chickens. Especially when they chase off the tweety birds in the back yard. He thinks that's funny.

I was so glad we got to visit a bit! Thank you, my husband says that I baby the birds too much. ;) I am SO happy that you have her! And especially since she will have a friend!!! I was so worried but now I feel at ease. Thank you!

So sorry about your loss!

Cream Legbar babies!!!! Cute chipmunk girl, grayish boy and brownish boy. Will be needing to find a home for them (except girl). So if you know of anyone...
They are SO sweet!!!!

Edit: I was going to say:
On day 20 on my 26 eggs of Light Sussex, SFH and Olive eggers. Only 6 OE and already 4 have been peeping and piped. Not one of the other breeds have done this. Must be a super breed or something... Now to wait to see what happens with this batch. It's a different incubator (still a Styrofoam but not a little giant) and a different thermometer.

.......

I will take the light gray boy back if you haven't homed him yet, he's just the color I like to keep.

I have some breeds that ALWAYS hatch early (Easter Eggers) and some breeds that ALWAYS hatch late (Isbar).

What happened here? I'm so confused. These are our eggs from our four girls. From left to right we have a jersey giant, black sex link, white leghorn and a barred rock. The top row contains their normal eggs (from earlier this week) the bottom are their eggs from today. Is this normal?

We have three silkie hens around 23 weeks old, but they didn't have access to the nesting box (it's too high) so I don't think this would be one of their first eggs. Any advice?
That bottom right one looks like a fart egg. Did it have a yolk? Often they don't. Sometimes it just happens, like someone said weather and nutrition can play a part sometimes, too.

i let mine go for at least day 28, just to be sure

What a cutie!!

Watching Olympic curling on tv instead of my normal morning news... its like shooting marbles on ice - the details completely elude me. Except that someone just said 'oh s..t' on Nat'l tv. Don't really know what I think. Its like going by an accident and having to look. How many Olympians have beer guts? Must... turn.... channel.....!

I was watching some news show last year and they had the most "medaled" Olympian on the news article, she has the most of any athlete ever world wide and is still competing, She is short and chubby (more then me) and I was thinking "how is that possible" then they said her sport .................................... shooting. (like clay pigeons and a gun)

Heard an owl outside one night, John took the gun out with a laser sight and the owl was on our tower, but took off. He then managed to get a hen a couple of days later. Have to watch the trees now, saw a chicken hawk down the road also. Also hear coyotes in the distance, but have a lot of coyote hunters around here. We hear the owls off in the distance now.

Owls can destroy a flock of chickens. If they can fly in under the the shed and get on the roost, they'll push the hens off and kill them one after another.
I like the idea of the laser sight.

Rinda, I'll keep him for you. So far most of my Olive eggers have piped and two hatched. It had me scratching my head wondering what was going on with the hatch. Lol!

Robin, shes such a cutie! I was wanting to give her a bath before you got her since she had a film of whatever it was from the neighbors. It was always so cold so I never got a chance. Let me know how the meet and greet goes! I hope she and the other little one hit it off well!

Looking forward to a weekend of great weather!!!

have all sorts of plans to make little coops like yours @TRUE5 by the way, make sure hubby only shoots to scare the hawk off, against the law to kill them- wondering if one of those fake owls would help too?

True, what do your coops look like that Robin is talking about? I'm needing to make something for the tiny pair that got frostbite for summer time. She lost all her toes and he's going to lose his foot but so far hasn't.
