***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Mitzi, I know where you're coming from! I swore I'd never buy banties but I see one blue bantam chick and suddenly I'm a willing bantam owner!

Speaking of being a bantam owner... I don't know if anybody remembers the story of the show quality Buff Brahma Bantams I was given to nurse back to health after they were neglected, Buffy and Van Helsing (Buffy and the vampire slayer!). I've been trying to hatch their eggs, but it's been a sad failure after sad failure. If the babies made it to hatch they died shortly after pip. I kept giving the pair vitamins and protein and hoped that when they were healthy, they would have healthy babies.

People in the illness forum told me they didn't think I would ever get healthy chicks. :(

I didn't want to say anything until she was at least three days old. Meet little Willow! She's so perfectly round and fuzzy! She has the most beautiful double lobed Brahma hairdo! And so far she's peppy and feisty and seems healthy.

Robin, thank you!!! You guys are just too good!

I'm so glad for you!!
Robin, that's hilarious we're all scheming on how to get her that Polish chick :-D

Robin - I caponized all your boys except for the silkie.  He was so stressed when I put him on the table that I thought he was going to faint.  I think he's not a good candidate for the surgery.  The rest of your boys are now full capons.  We'll work out a day next week for me to bring them back to you.

I'm properly impressed you got them done, too, now that I know how big and slippery the older ones testes are. Good job!

A more capable and fabulous group ef enablers there never was!

I had to assist a chick to hatch, it is fine, no bleeding the yolk sac was absorbed and everything, it just seems a little week, It moves around and peeps and raises it's head. Do you think it will be better in the morniing or is there something I need to give it.

Surely, no one is suggesting this kind of chicken math is a bad thing?  LOL

My chicken math is about to be calculus. Lol. My mom is sending me an incubator for my birthday but it should be here soon she is putting it in the mail tommorrow. I am planning on joining the hatch along with my Brinsea Mini Advanced so I'm guessing 7 eggs plus I ordered 10 chicks from the feeds store. DH is already upset about the geometry of chickens and where we are going to put them all. Especially since I keep buying chicks from the feed store lol

Quote: I'm glad he's doing better. He's probably still in shock and grateful he's still alive. I've been trying to catch up on reading, it seems dogs are really breaking our hearts.

Thanks for the info! He did the job on his own sometime last night

. But this is useful knowledge for down the road. Glad that yours is still giving you a chance to figure it out. Wish I could help someway - but am feeling pretty stupid chicken healthwise right now.
Never feel stupid about chickens healthwise now or ever. We all learn something new everyday. Sometimes so trivial that we don't even realize it. Do u still have his body available? I'd be curious to see what his trachea looks like. Sometimes gapeworms can give them all those symptoms. I'm so new I'm not one to give advice, but I always think doing a necropsy on them can teach us a lot. I received an e-mail from another BTCer that says he sends all his bloodwork to UCDavis. They only charge $4.00 and do multiple tests for the money. You can get the correct tubes from your vet, draw it and send it off when one gets really sick. It would be worth it, if finding out what they have and then treating it properly. I feel stupid about chickens period and worry over them too much. I love my geese just as much. Really sorry for your loss because I know you tried hard.

Remember I'm not a good speller.

I can't wait to see all you great peeps tomorrow at the Coweta auction! I'll be taking my grandbabies, so if there's something you absolutely have to have be sure to let us know so we won't bid against you.

Just a heads up though... if my granddaughter wants something specific I'm going to make her bid on it so you'll be the one bidding against the six year old girl with tears in her eyes!
No one will want to have a 6 yr. old chicken addict to be and hopefully a poultry vet, to get her heart broken so young. Isn't that right everyone?

can't go near a feedstore this time of year....
As my hubby told u today, after last year, I'm grounded from any feed store that sells poultry unless he is with me. He wasn't exaggerating about how many I'd keep bringing home.\ last year. It really doen't matter though, because if I said oh honey I just have to have this one he'd roll his eyes but wouldn't stop me. He just likes to talk tough. Hopefully the girls will settle down. I felt so bad, that they thought I was desserting them. But after these crosses I got from NanKat I'm really excited to see buff cochin and orpington crosses. The girls will warm up. They probably feel they're cheating on Dwight. That u for being so hospitable. I really enjoyed our visit and seeing your birds. I know my girls will be in good hands,er, Sonny's girls will be in good hands. At least I didn't cry like a baby like Glenn said I would. Wish I could take pictures like you did. Mine ae too light. Maybe I need to adjust something.

Oh Nana Kat and everyone else, I do have some good news. Buffy is back. The dog didn't get her

She was hiding and went right back into the brooder house. It's a relief, she's one of my favs. Always broody and an awesome mom.

Well, my Speckled Sussex chicks and Amanda's are going to be here tom along with Dusti's Mottled javas. I can't wait. I don't know why, it's always more work and I barely get the essentials finished now. I think I'm in love with silkies now, after seeing Robins, and the showgirls, I want one bad. They are adorable. I told Glenn that on the way home and he wanted to know when I was getting some silkies and a Naked Neck rooster. He's no dummy Ha ha, or is he.? He says I better start selling eggs. I give about 6 dozen or so away to the needy and then all neighbors and aquaintances around here, He may be right. Feed is getting more expensive.

Muesky--- I think it was u that asked about the call ducks. I don't know anything about them, but the muscovies love flys, especially the young ducklings.

The other one is just a ball of energy, it hatched on it's own with no problem.
I know nothing about seramas, but I give all my new babies some poly vi sol in case the are lacking some vitamins. A D And E are also good to give on new borns, but Robin and Ksane raise them so will probably know more. The peeping either means it's uncomfortable in some way or sometime there's a lot of tlkers, but I'd guess a vitamin defiency
