***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Need some help and hopefully you guys can give me some info!  I got an order of silkie chicks from Cackle on Friday.  4 have already died and now two more are bleeding from their butts so I'm pretty sure it's cocci.  Where do I get amprol?  My hubby is at atwoods atm and he can't find any.  The person helping him has called all feed stores around us and everyone is saying they don't have it.  What else can I give them if I can't fine the amprol?

They should have a package of corid. It's used for calves too.

Thank you!  He found that!

You're welcome.

I was in Atwoods the other day and was looking for DE and they told me it was by the rat poison. I was like you can't be serious. This stuff is commonly used with livestock and gardens why don't you have it by the livestock or gardening stuff. I need to utilize Farmer's Feed more.

I just saw the COOLEST THING!!! I was working in the pen and I heard an odd strained burbling noise from the Brahma pen. They were inside their little house so I looked in and she was standing over the nest area making the odd noise. He was standing next to her, looking under her, and cooing. She clucked back, he paced a little and kept cooing, and right in front of me, she dropped the egg! I would swear he puffed right up and trilled. I'm pretty sure that rooster loves that hen.

Haha I have had several roosters that I swear teach new pullets how to lay. They will tramp down then nest box whirring and clucking then get out and let her get in, then cluck and trill some more, until she lays!

How about having POOPS on June 14th in Tahlequah? I need to plan a chicken gathering at the custom coop site. We would have lots of shade, a covered area for food, and I'm sure we can get a lot of shopper through if we get the word out.
If it was done I would hope more centrally located. That way more people can make it. Hopefully. I say end of may first of June. Try to keep the heat down some.

POOPS: The reasoning behind the second Saturday in June is the extension of my school year. We had so many days out for inclement weather, and I think we're adding a week for teachers. I'm not positive, but I need to plan for it.

Also, the first Saturday in June conflicts with the sale in Inola, I think. I want to be sure I'm not putting people in the position of having to choose. Inola can be cool if you have an ATV and want to traverse miles and miles of people's "stuff" (plus they have poultry in the morning). POOPS will be a day-long event, and I want people to feel like they have gotten their drive-time worth of poultry, friends, potluck, and fun.

How many people feel they could make the drive to Tahlequah on Saturday, June 14th? Anybody know of anything BIG that's happening on that day? Picking the date can be the hardest part. I really, really want to have the maximum amount of time for planning. For those who want to be in on the planning, let's form a PM group. I'm going to handle the place and the potties. I'll make sure we have a nice area at the coop display lot, with porta potties set up, and we'll need folks for other jobs: Advertising, Signs, Food - Keeping Track, Setting UP, and Putting Away. I'm going to front the money for the porta potties, so I'm hoping we can do some donations and drawings to cover the potty cost. What does everybody think?
My District has extended the year for teachers too. Kid's last day is June 3rd. Teacher's last day is June 9th.

I will have to think about how I can help this year. I may be going home to Michigan to spend time with my parents right after school is out and miss it all together. But if I am in Oklahoma then I sure will be there.
I don't mind traveling this year. One year it was 7 miles from my house and anouther year, less than 4 miles.

Corid will also work - It is a liquid and at most farm supply places. Make sure you let the hatchery know!

Glad Shelbydog was there with the corid info - 4 hours later is a bit late.

I have a young buff orpington that has decided to go broody on her eggs inside a flower pot. I actually have no idea how many she has (or not) in there - we've been collecting them, but sometimes forget and they tend to collect for a bit. Anyway, it is (was) an empty plastic pot that has tipped over in a pile of stuff on the driveway. I don't want to leave her out there vulnerable to all the coyotes/dogs/cats/coons/etc.

Was thinking of just picking it up and putting the whole thing into the coop. Any thoughts on if she might abandon it - and if I can reduce the possibility by maybe putting the thing inside a show pen set up inside the coop (of course, providing food and water). I have no idea what she is eating now - pretty far away from the chicken yard or the cat food on the front porch.
