***OKIES in the BYC III ***

The girls 3 week old pics

The lightest colored one she is starting to grow a top knot

This girl is going to be barred

I'm only 50% sure she is a girl but soooo hoping

This girl has some awesome color / pattern that really doesn't show good on the pics.

Dang I didn't think about trimming bum hairs. My super fluffy hen that lays really good has bum hair problems and I was wondering if she is being fertilized but can't tell her eggs apart. I have 22 eggs in my incubator I'm hoping a couple are like her quote name="lonnyandrinda" url="/t/501128/okies-in-the-byc-iii/53400#post_13197584"]
Hehe you meant Rinda, right?  Soon!  I need to go out tonight and trim bum feathers, they are SO fluffy I think the rooster isn't making contact when he mates them, still having about 50% fertility rate.  Glad your others are doing well!  As long as the iffies don't smell rotten when you bring them to your nose it won't hurt to leave them in just in case.

None of the Bantam Cochin eggs that I set before I plucked fluffy bums were fertile. Tonight I candled some of the eggs that will go in the hatcher on Wednesday, (I was putting a new bunch in the incubator and couldn't wait til Wed. to candle at lock down) and I have much better fertility.

The Mille Fleurs still aren't great - only 2 eggs are fertile, but that is better than 0.
I have 6 Mille Fleur Cochin hens and 2 roos so I should be getting a bunch but they did start laying later than my Mottled and Lavender/Black pens.

The Blue Copper Marans are still leading the chick race - Beaudreau and his girls; Marie, Anette and, not laying yet, Colette.

Kass, the NNs are striking...looks like the naked gene is more than just the neck!

Even with the drizzle and intermittent showers we worked cows today...moving heifers to a back pasture and the pairs forward so we could separate out two cows ready to calve their first calves. These girls are now in the lot by the barn with an outside light so we can watch them thru the window.
Can't say there is much in the rain gauge, but we sure need the moisture.

I let the juveniles out for a little exercise...The hawk swooped in like a rocket and nailed a black pullet as we were coming back to the house. I locked the juveniles up again. Roger sat In the barn with the rifle waiting for it to return to the kill. After 30 minutes, he did some tractor work. Then after he put the tractor in the barn...the smart hawk returned and tried to lift the pullet but she was too heavy for it....of course...the gun was back in the house.

Eggs are due to begin hatch tonight into tomorrow.....18 in the hatcher.

First thing that came to mind was a sticky trap. I wonder if you could spray an adhesive on the victim in order to trap the assailant.

I know that's kinda far fetched but there was a little cartoon reenactment playing in my head when I read this.

One of the mottled NN babies hatched. He's alone in the hatcher making a lot of noise. He's gigantic, so I'm going to assume it's a HE. He may turn out to be a jubilee NN. I'll have to wait until he gets feathers. Sure is a cute little guy. I hope he has a bunch of buddies soon.
