***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi, I'm new to the forums. My husband, 5 kids and myself live in Norman. We currently have silkie chicks (my babies) and some bantam pullets (d'uccle and cochin) though we are still looking for a few more. But searching for the perfect bird is half the fun!

We are so excited to be backyard chicken farmers now! Only wishing we had more space so we could have LOTS more chickens! Hoping to make some connections with other folks that raise bantams as I'm sure we have a lot to learn.

I've got my first broody!

She's been on this nest for 3 days now. But I don't know what's under her. LOL. She's not very fierce but I didn't want to push her buttons.

Your girls and my girls must be in sync. My biggest Langshan keeps trying to hog the best nesting box. I'm going to have to set up a protected area for her, because she tried to stay outside the coop the other night.

I have Bantam Cochins. I adore them. They were my first birds and still my favorites. They aren't great layers but are super Momas and Daddys and have great personalities. I have never had D'uccles though.

People say they are supposed to be sweet birds but i must have gotten the outliers. My 2 d'uccle hens can be hags and the rooster was a punk till he got caponized. He's nice and mellow now. LOL

Welcome to BYC! Let me know if your kids get into showing chickens in 4H. If they're interested in Buff Brahma Bantams we can chicken train a couple to you.
