***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Here's better pics. I have no idea where she got them. I'm hoping they'll be "safe" with my large chickens.

The first one is a golden sebright.

Do any of the others have feathered legs?

Evening : )

Is anyone planning to go to the sale at Inola (Chupps) on May 3rd? I thought I might take my grandkids and look for some white and fawn Indian runner ducklings. I also want to find an old (but in good condition) little tikes play house that I can use as a shelter for my geese, for when they're old enough to be outside. Right now they're in a big brooder making big messes. I love the little guys, but man oh man they can make a puddle out of nothing.
Is that auction worth going to? I have been before but never noticed chickens or ducks. I mean, they had some by that building but not a lot of them. Then again we were all over the place looking at the junk. Lol

They usually have a couple hundred birds under the metal awning by the office where you get your bidding number. Birds sell at 8:00 a.m., or at least they sold at 8:00 the last time I was there. Junk in the field starts around 11:00. I will not put my birds in their sale unless I have scrap wire to make cages. Cages sell with the birds. Also, the auctioneer drives a golf cart through the rows. Be prepared for him to miss everything you have written on your cages. You have to be right there when your birds sell to make sure they are described correctly. I had double laced Barnevelder pullets in a cage that was clearly marked. The auctioneer fumbled over the pronunciation of Barnevelder, so instead he said, "In lot #Berf we have three brown chickens. Are they hens? I don't know. How much will you give for three brown chickens?" I was at his shoulder trying to tell him these were rare pullets, dark egg layers, but he was in a hurry to get to the next lot, and he chose not to hear me. My pullets sold for $3.oo apiece. I was stunned and angry and frustrated and couldn't make myself heard to P.O. them. I think, to the auctioneer, I was just another voice in the crowd.

Oh yeah.... crowd. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry will be crowded around the lot that's being sold. They won't bid, but they will block the view of those who are bidding. Their kids will kick your cages and bump into you, spilling your hot coffee. When you ask them to please slow down, or to please stop kicking your cages, they will look at you like you're a freak and move on to the next row without acknowledging you. If there is a cage of birds you want to bid on, stand as close as you can to the cage and wait for the auctioneer to drive to you. Stay put. You'll want to be right there to hear which lot, which cage, and which birds are being sold. Otherwise you'll end up bidding on the wrong cage. The way they auction birds is fast, but I don't think the seller gets a good deal.

I've got 5 brooding hens right now. Toulouse goose has been sitting on 7 eggs for a couple of weeks now. Muscovy duck has been on her nest for over 2 weeks.

Picked up 7 rouen ducklings from Rinda last night. And picked up my 4 welsh harlequin ducklings, thank you so much Kelly for manning the incubator. The spinning top duckling has settled down. I gave him as much niacin as I could so we'll see if he's still hanging on when I get home from work.

Here's some pics of my auction egg babies and goslings:

@Kassaundra tried to pm you but am using a borrowed ancient computer and it is having fits- so you'll probably end up with triplicate pm's. Can i share Rudy with some friends on facebook, he is such a special little guy

As i mentioned to Kass, my laptop is waiting on parts so am using an old xp and driving me nuts! How long will a muscovy stay fertile? These hens i bought are laying and wondered if its possible they may hatch??
