nope they are a blessing to us...without them we would have no reason to get up some days....they keep us laughing and loving and looking forward to everyday...now you all find us some chicken auctions near us we are close to Ft smith Arkansas and my Son wants to raise silkies and those frizzles the ones that look like they are having a real bad hair day...lol

did you see my post about the poultry swap/flea market 2nd,3rd,4th it would be a nice day trip we will be there with silkies and frizzles. Come early before the heat gets bad . Look -up their website Afton Poultry swap/Flea Market. Holiday Swaps for directions. Afton is close to Grove,Ok.

Anyone found chocolate, bronze or royal purple guineas? I dont like the pied ones so makes it a little harder when you are picky like me! Thought I had some keets lined up north of Dallas but it fell through! I have checked craigslist & no luck to any close by. Might just order some in the spring, I have been looking for a month already!

We have used band-aids & they worked great for the legs. I cut the band-aid in half long ways. Taped their legs together leaving a normal amount of space no extra. Kinda like handcuffs but for chick legs. After 2 days they were all better. It is defiantly a two person job but works great!

Wanted to let you all know the bandaid thing worked for me on two guines last week in a couple of days couldn't tell who had spraddle leg and who didn,t also DON'T put any of your babies just out of the incubator on slick newspaper or feed sacks. paper towels work pretty good.

Those of you thinking about the large flea
markets...Afton Swapmeet for example.....
Please be careful whether buying or selling.
There are several well-intentioned groups
of folks that go to these poultry sales to
buy chickens for butchering. The problem
comes up in the fact that they shop hard
and handle birds from each seller's area
and then move on to the next.

If you're selling birds and don't sell everything
you took up there........quarantine your birds
after the trip. If you're buying.........quarantine
ALL birds before you blend them into yours.

We went through a nightmare last year with
sick birds and TJ missed most of his show
season. The only place we had been all
spring was the aforementioned swap and
we only brought a few birds that didn't sell
back home.

There's way toooo much effort involved to take
a chance.

Happy 4th of July !!!!!!!!

NANA how you been? Hope the heat aint keeping you down. We been going to clear creek and down to the river, around the old river bridge to cool off. I agree, seems we both learned the hard away about bio security.

Hello Okies....running water in the gardenagian today...1/2 " rain was good for a few days, but the ground is getting dry on top again.

Between running to the hoses, I put yogurt in to culture...8 quarts. Miss Prissy has the greatest easy recipe in the food section. I've used it many times before and everybody loves it. Got out of the habit when hubby had his surgery earlier this year. We have family coming to visit at the MIL's this week and one aunt asked if there would be yogurt...so it's in the "incubators" doing its thing.

Lynn...glad your Mom is doing better.

Kassaundra...love the garden photos.

Stimpy...don't slip on the ice.

SJarvis00...will be waiting on your heads up call.

Personally...we like Fresca and Cranberry juice. ... for the adults ... Pim's Cup with ginger ale.....ahhh refreshing.

I lost 5 of my nice Red Pullets yesterday, got a game hen setting that just won't give up, even after the eggs went bad under her, took the nest away from her and she just set in the corner on dirt!!! Give in and gave her a nest full of fresh eggs this morning!!! The other hen that was setting hatched out 5 from 8 eggs under her!!! Got chicks in the incubator to move to the brooder today!!!
