***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Just leaving the Newcastle auction, hot hot hot there. @bardies I never saw you there, I saw ashtree and Muesky though! Ashtree has the coolest 8 yr old son! And when the box of 6 LF Faverolles came up for bid I'm sure I had the "deer in the headlights" look on my face :-O
And they came home with me

3 boys and 3 girls about 2 months old. I do believe Favs are my favorite breed.

Mitzi, can you determine sex on the SF by color. The reason I asked I hatched some out and wondering myself, because some are darker feathered and others lighter.

Yes, you can sex them at 2 wks or so, how old are yours? Boys start growing in real dark feathers about them & girls stay tan/creme. The one in the top picture is a boy.

Yes mine are 5 weeks old, and you can definately see a difference in the wing color. so looks like the 5 I have, there are 4 hens and 1 rooster...yay

Hope everyone is having a relaxing day.
I sent three roosters to freezer camp this morning ... average is 4.5 pounds. Two were older and will make good stewing but the younger (8 months) will make a nice roaster.

We had a brief shower when Roger took the entrails to the crawdad pond with Red in the Ranger. The thunder sent him under the desk...he's a great storm indicator...

Roger has been spreading fertilizer and spraying pastures for weeds. The rocking rolling of the tractor has been taking its toll on his joints and muscles....but he keeps going....like the Everready battery. He wants to get as much down before the rains that may be coming this week.
There are babies hatching in the incubator today. they were due on the 20th but only one hatched. I candled and saw lots of movement so let them sit. So far 8 more have hatched and several more are pipped...these are out of a project pen of a Blue Birchen Wyandotte over Black Birchen hens. There is a Bantam Delaware and a Spangled Old English Bantam too.

Does this look like bumble foot and should I do surgery? It's on my silkie hen

Yes, looks like it but it doesn't look too bad. I can't recall off the top of my head the "sugar wrap" method but that's what I'd use at this point (my 2¢). Someone will chime in about the sugar method.
@ashtree I keep forgetting to ask you-how is the Silkie you did bumblefoot surgery on??
Here's my 3 new ducks. A Mallard pair and a Khaki Campbell hen, 4 months old. Never had ducks! I'm really excited about building them a pond. We had a 6x12 Goldfish pond 15 yrs ago and i've always wanted another pond.

I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but I'm cooking up a doosey of one between my dogs and husband over a much to cute for her own good kitten. Who just showed up out of the blue in the middle of the night and thinks the dogs are her momma.
