***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'm worried for my Van Helsing. Poor boy had something last week that I thought might be a headbump or a blow from Orlando, he couldn't control his neck, seemed disoriented, and his legs weren't working. I brought him inside and the next day he was much better, standing up and not flopping his head around, and by the day after that he seemed just fine. The next day I put him back in his pen. Yesterday, two days later, he was face down in the dirt and not moving, his comb is so pale, almost white. I feel like he may be nearing the end of his days.

I'm just not sure what to do with him. He's been wormed and dusted. Currently he's inside in a tub. His poo looks normal. He's never liked boiled eggs, so he's getting yogurt and crumble. Have you guys ever seen anything like this?

Poor baby. His little face is so expressive.
i am dealing with a similar thing in my Timmy, after lots of research i decided chiggers- he got pale and swollen neck etc. any chance he could have gotten in a patch of chiggers- here is the write up on it:

Quote: i am treating him with aspirin, benadryl and tylan- he is slowly getting better.

he is beginning to eat and drink normally

I have a dilemma with my mama guinea- they are forcasting rain, she is in the garden with 13 babies, i set up a leanto to give them some protection- but the brush is too thick to get in to them- please tell me she will be smart enough to move them under cover- am worried about them surviving

anyone know of a good swap meet coming up or have some good eggs for sale. only free range chickens though?
What breeds are you looking for? It's been so hot the last few days my fertility rate has gone down, the last batch I set for myself is terrible but I could give you extra eggs to make up for it. My chickens are kept in pens BUT I do not overcrowd them, they all have lots of grass to pick through and eat from. I am no longer setting EEs, sexlinks, or Ameraucanas for myself if those interest you.
Also it may help if you post where you are at and how far you are willing to travel, or if you are willing to have them shipped to you.

I really want to incubate something but didn't find any interesting eggs at the auction. Is it too hot already to get shipped eggs??
If you are going to ship in eggs do it this next week while it's back down in the 80s. After this week I wouldn't do it, the eggs will start to incubate on the mail truck.

I am ridiculously allergic to the stuff, I don't even have to touch it. My hands and face look like I have leprosy.

I am highly sensitive to it, too. That may explain our "luck!" Actually I brushed past some on the front fence chasing after my kids and thought, "uh-oh, that looks like poison ivy..." but I didn't have time to think about it after that. I've got a lovely rash on my upper arm including a line where my sleeve covered my arm. I'm REALLY surprised I didn't get it all over from that. It's actually a lot better than I usually get, and I am very glad it isn't on my face, sorry that really sucks for you!

Glad to hear Timmy is doing better.

I've never had a guinea hen raise keets- but I've heard lots of bad stories about guinea hens dragging new babies through wet grass and not keeping them dry. Best thing you can do is provide shelter and pray she's smart enough to stay in it for her own sake!

yeah, looking at the radar, am praying for a miracle!

Oh no guys I just joined one if those crazy swaps. I mined 6 SFH eggs and am offering a pair of my chicken hit pads custom order or some homemade chocolate syrup. I have no clue what I am doing. :)

Yes, looks like it but it doesn't look too bad. I can't recall off the top of my head the "sugar wrap" method but that's what I'd use at this point (my 2¢). Someone will chime in about the sugar method.
@ashtree I keep forgetting to ask you-how is the Silkie you did bumblefoot surgery on??
Here's my 3 new ducks. A Mallard pair and a Khaki Campbell hen, 4 months old. Never had ducks! I'm really excited about building them a pond. We had a 6x12 Goldfish pond 15 yrs ago and i've always wanted another pond.

Ksane...so sorry to hear about Van Helsingborg. Sure hope he grows stronger.

Did anyone else come home with poison ivy from POOPS besides me and Kass?  Or are we just lucky like that!

Tea Tree oil helps relieve the itching. it is the main ingredient in those Poison Ivy relief soaps. you can get it at the pharmacy. A few drops mixed with a peasized dollop of coconut oil can be applied to the skin and the coconut oil helps it be absorbed.

A large plastic tub or can can be turned on its side, braced by bricks or sticks and filled with hay. She should take her chicks inside.
