***OKIES in the BYC III ***

It has been a very hard week. Last week we visited my Husband's dad in Mississippi. Dad is only 71 and in good psysical health but has dymensia and is now in a home. It is very hard for my Husband who hasn't had much time with him since he was 14 and moved with his Mom to Texas.

While we were in MS, our dear dog jumped the fence at DH's Aunt's house, where we were staying, and died. We are heartbroken. Louie was a wonderful dog and my shawdow. I am still looking for him every time I go to sleep, wake up and  when I go from room to room and pen to pen.

Oh no! Oh, I'm so sorry! I come on here and talk about how much I love my chickens because this is a chicken forum, but when my dog, Jewels, dies, I will be inconsolable. They're our best friends and most loyal and trustworthy companions. They sleep in our doorways to be our first line of defense against intruders, and they scout ahead through thick brush to flush out danger. People who see them as nothing more than property will never know their true value. I know you're grieving the loss of a best friend. My deepest condolences for your loss, Mary Joe. :hugs

It has been a very hard week. Last week we visited my Husband's dad in Mississippi. Dad is only 71 and in good psysical health but has dementia and is now in a home. It is very hard for my Husband who hasn't had much time with him since he was 14 and moved with his Mom to Texas.

I'm so sorry to hear your news. When I spoke with an elderly relative years ago, one who should have been in a home, I decided that if faced with a similar situation, I would opt for a care home. She, my grandmother by marriage, confided in me that the boy hired to cook and clean was very polite. He did a good job with the breakfasts and lunches, but his dinner portions were too small. He was noisy in the bathroom, and sometimes, without knocking, he would enter her room at night and sleep in the bed beside hers. She wasn't afraid of him, as he never approached her in an inappropriate manner, but she thought it was rude for him to share her room without asking first.

There was no boy hired to cook or clean for her. The man she perceived as an outsider was her husband of more than sixty years. She could not recognize most of her family members, and those who had been closest to her where the first forgotten. Your husband may find comfort in knowing that the staff in facilities qualified to serve dementia patients are caring and knowledgeable.

Louie sounds like an amazing dog. We become so attached, so much in need of the company of our animal companions, and we hurt so much when we lose them. Friday, during a marathon drive to and from Missouri, I told Dusti about a dog I'd loved for seven years and then lost to kidney disease. It's a good thing I was behind the wheel (never cry and drive is a rule I do my best not to break), or Dusti would have been treading water instead of just trying hard not to notice the breaks in my voice. Louie will be your shadow for as long as you remember him.

my Gma (who raised me so more of a mom) had alzhiemers and got to the point that we had to move her to a place that they could watch her and lock the doors, it got to where it wasn't safe for us to do it anymore. The first day she didn't recognize me is still the saddest day of my life. Depending of what stage he is in, he will still have lucid times, cherish those for the gifts they are.

Losing you dog at the same time

Thank you! I've read about easter eggs but didn't know the shorthand. Okay, now what is a "muffed" egg? I do appreciate the help in bringing this newbie along into the chicken world! Thanks!

Muffs, are the puffy cheeks and usually accompanied by a beard it is a trait most people want and associate w/ EEs The eggs are blue or green ( so muffed face, blue/green eggs)

I have two Maran roosters that I need to re-home. One of them is older and doesn't have the tips on his comb I guess due to frost bite ( I purchased at an auction several months back) but a nice rooster, not mean or anything. Also I have a Black Copper Maran cockeral going on 4 months old. I will try to post pictures.

Not Louie :hit :hit :hit
I'm not ashamed to say I've lost 1 dog in particular I'd have sacrificed humans to have kept. It never gets easier to be without them but you get used to it. And after awhile-a very long while for me-you realize when you talk to them in your head that it feels like they're there listening. Louie was awesome. The way he was with those chicks I got from Jack recently was amazing. What a huge loss, I'm so sorry :hugs
Hug Joe for us also. Trying to come to terms with his father is hard enough without having to lose Louie.

Carrie, (the Mom), is my neighbor and a good friend to Jack, (neighbor across the street and my Chicken Mentor) and me. She is a dear lady and has nice flocks.

Aneraucanas in a "pure" flock occasionally hatch out some birds with EE coloring. Over 5 years I have seen Jack's Bule/Splash flock hatch out fewer and fewer birds with EE coloring.

I knew someone would know her! I agree, wonderful lady.

Just finished the first racking of my green tomato wine, and I had to sample some of it (quality control) and OH MY it is going to be some goooood wine when it is finished.

A muffed egg is what you get when you're typing before you even get out of bed in the morning, let alone get your first cup ot coffee. ;)
