***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I knew someone would know her! I agree, wonderful lady.
Thanks for the info, Im gonna take some time off from my chick search. I think failing at Ameraucanas twice in a row bummed me out. But I love these little chicks and aside from silkies Im holding out for my swedish flower hens. I think thats going to be it for me for the year. I can already hear my husband griping when I mention 1 more (just 1 more, I promise, THIS is the LAST time) chicken house…..yea he's heard that before.

I can't keep up with all this Ameraucana what is or isn't talk. I'm trying on another thread and seem to be getting more and more confused. Last I heard is both parents can be pure and produce EE offspring sometimes. How's a newbie supposed to follow that????

Subhanalah addressed something I wasn't going to touch. It's just easiest to know that almost everything you get that people call Ameraucana are really EEs with Ameraucana traits and possibly strong Ameraucana bloodlines. Buy from trusted sources. My suggestion is to go to a show, like the yearly show in Shawnee, find birds that win, and buy from those breeders. Dusti and I saw some GORGEOUS Ameraucanas at the last Shawnee show.

That's if you're really set on purebreds. And even then, most chickens today aren't pure, even purebreds.n

Then when you go to an auction and the auctioneer says "We got some beautiful Ameraucanas right here" you can just nod and smile with the rest of us.

i came to the conclusion early on, i'm not breeding for show, i am just enjoying them, so i enjoy my EE girls, and my boy that was supposed to be pure but has his legs the wrong color, most of my EE's came from Poco and they are all sweet natured- it really just depends on perspective, and on that thread, it can get a bit testy- that said- my favorite girl Trinity, 3rd generation EE and a sweet personaity

the problem with chickens, everyone i see i fall in love with- the beauty of EE's is variety.. ok off my soap box

looks like my girls are finally starting to lay again... got 3 eggs today

Nana, my garden is NOTHING compared to yours, but by far the best we've had in many years.

I'm hoping I caught the squash bug infestation in time. I wouldn't have even known there was a problem had I not been hovering over the tiny squashes. Found some tiny bugs (I'm guessing squash bug babies) and a few inside wilted leaves, as well as a couple of not yet blooming squashes that were withering away. Other than that, all nine of the squash plants look good outwardly.

my favorite chicken (I just so happen to be her favorite human being on Earth so that kind of tips it in her favor!) is an EE. Just love them!

I've already fallen in love with my little chicks and it sounds like PUREs a hassle. I've no plans to breed within the next year so I'm quite happy. Honestly if I'd known all the things required to make a pure I don't think I would have made it a goal. :) I'm just glad to get some colorful eggs. I hope I haven't brought the ameraucana drama to this board!
