***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Here is a closer picture

I love the pattern your chick is wearing : ) The saddle feathers will be further back. With my glasses on, I can usually determine the shape of the feathers that grow between the back and the tail. In the saddle area: feathers with round ends indicate a female, and feathers with pointed ends indicate a male.

Coral, just wanted to let you know the geese are doing fabulous! They've settled in nicely with the others. Love them!!
I'm happy to hear they are doing well. The three I still have are so much fun to watch. The grandkids had the sprinkler out recently, and it sounded like the geese were calling out instructions as the kids ran through the water. After the hose was turned off, the geese investigated the soggy grass and spent some time puddle stomping.

Oh I wish we had gotten colored-egg chicks. Ours just lay brown ones...we think. We are so new to this and they are only 10 days old or so. But DH read you can make the yolks BLACK! by adjusting the feed. Since he often acts like an 8 year old, I'm going to have to watch him. Black...how yucky!

I'm sure you can find some Easter Eggers on Craigslist. It's not too late!

Woo hoo I just picked up 2 packages of poultry nipples at Atwoods for $2.99 each. There are 4 to a pack.
these are vertical nipples, not horizontal nipples. Vertical nipples are pretty cheap, but horizontal are superior for chickens/quail/pecking fowl.
Either type is better than the moat/basin waterer design, though.

....put the waterer up on bricks, had 2 whole days of wonderful poop free and mostly bedding free water. Then Gwyn realized he could roost on top of the waterer. Now he poops directly in the waterer all the time.

On a lighter note, I love it when Scooter (the silkie) wipes her face off after shoving her entire face into the feeder. @subhanalah good news! Scooters crest seems to be growing back very feminine. And she's molting (or at least growing a TON of feathers)

^^ In this picture, behind the red girl - you can see the chain and a feeder hanging from it. When they were smaller they kept trying to roost on the edge of it and were getting poop in the feed. We had bought a HUGE roll of welded wire and it had these big, flappy red plastic 'things' on each end with a hold in the middle for wire ties to hold the welded wire in place. I converted those floppy red things by cutting from the center of the hole until it would fit over the handle. It is not sturdy so when they'd try to fly up and land on it they'd slide right off. I fixed their wagons

If you could find something similarly floppy and could modify it to your waterer/feeder it will work!

Anyone want to guess if my NN chick I got from Poco Pollo at Poops is a boy or girl?? I just love it's coloring and gorgeous NN and bow tie (pictures were taken in my grooming shop)

Awe, I don't know what sex it is, but I love it's coloring!! Too cute!

Did you guys see Rudy is famous, his pic is on a BYC FB post. He's not getting as many votes as the Ayam Cemani, but holding his own
