***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Sent a pm, I think IF I were going to try instead of wrapping w/ the rubber band like a pony tail, I would cut the rubber band and wrap and tie a few times.  I think it would be easier that way, more controllable less likely to "catch" the p###s.

Ok. Thanks for the info. The link is helpful in deciding if this is what we want to do.

if your are going to try banding i would suggest you use the bands for goats and not hair bands they are not as good as castrating bands the castrating bands will be better because they are made diffrent. You also will have to keep it from licking or chewing on the scrotom becase that can cause problems banding works better on animals that cant reach there privet parts. You can buy them at Attwoods

Have you butchered a buck before?

No I have not, the info I sent her wasn't my info at all, it was from a forum where a couple of people tried it successfully for multiple male rabbits. I have no personal knowledge of whether it would work or not, just passing on the info I did find on the subject.

I did not post to the public byc forum for 2 reasons 1) it was from another group and that is against byc rules, and 2) I didn't want to offend.

Had a rough afternoon today. After a full day of errands, activities, and grocery shopping with 4 kids who were rather argumentative all afternoon, I came home to find my babies had "broke out" of the coop I locked them in this morning and managed to chill/drown themselves all day in the deluge while I was gone.

I brought them in and long story short was only able to save about a dozen out of 50. Most of them died in my hands. I had to call my hubby at work to come home and dispose of them and put away the groceries, I had had enough. Urgh! But my 8yo son was so sweet tonight and made me feel much better during our "talk time" at bedtime.

@Ksane I'm really sorry but some of your little boys were lost. I was able to save two of them and I have two other "colorful" boys from a week or two older so you'll still get four. Also lost several of the sexlink boys (Marans X CL) I was planning to use for the capon clinic. I'm sure I still have enough, but mostly I'm sick I lost most of my Langshans, Ameraucanas, and several Cream Legbars (1 boy and 3 girls) I was growing out for myself for next year. Not to mention several Jubilee Orps. :(

I keep thinking it's been a rough enough chicken year for me and things are bound to be better now.

Should have blocked the door better than I had, I've been kicking myself since I found them.

Im so sorry about your chicks. That sounds like a truly frustrating day filled with way too much sadness.

And I think the heat makes my kids more fighty. We just get hot and irritable. I sure hope tomorrow is a better day for you, and
