***OKIES in the BYC III ***

been floating ice in their water they seem to like it.....cool whip containers filled with water popped in the freezer then popped into their water helps keep it cool all their pens are shaded...I got happy chickens

We just got through two weeks of 115 degree days in OK so I feel for you all. I was able to manage without any deaths. Lots of water, fan for the little ones, cold fruit treats, and I made rice hull cooling stations which I wet down several times a day. I also have a plastic tub lid filled with water as a wading pool.
Good luck!

Injoyd reading you peep's story's on keeping your bird's cool...a tub lid for a waiting pool so cool .....See you peep's later ....

Just wanted to show off our new chicken coop and introduce our four pullets. The chicken coop started as a 40"x40" frame (use to be a homemade cement mix stand). My hubby and I worked on turning that frame into a 41"x 71" chicken coop (plus the 41" x 18" nesting area). So, for our anniversary, we worked on that coop for 3 days! Of course, he thought we would be done in a few hours:) We are very proud of our work. The coop needs some more tweaking, but is working for now. We plan to replace the chicken wire with hardware cloth - we read about that a little too late. The coop has a pull out "drawer" for the litter. We are using the deep litter method. Has several roost areas and room for 3 nesting boxes. I need to get a good pic of the front. This first pic is actually the backside. It has a small door that opens up into our garden - for free play time.

be careful with that size of wire, one of my girls got cut bad on the larger hex wire- you have some beautiful girls there!

Yes, we are going to replace that this weekend. Just didn't realize it was a bad thing until after we used it. Bummer. But, luckily, it is pretty cheap.
