***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good morning and Happy Friday!

I was wondering what color my banty EE roo "Screamin Demon" would be considered....wheaten?....blue wheaten? His tail and neck feathers are a mixture if black/blue.

This weather here in Comanche county is so ridiculously hot and dry (I know we Okies have a tendency to state the obvious). My poor birds are panting all day and even the frozen 1 gallon jugs are melted by 11am. I feel bad for them. On the plus side when I turn on the hose and let it run by my feet even my skittish Leghorns are coming up to me to play in it. Also I think the heat encourages bug population growth because there are lots of grasshoppers and beetles trapped in the pools skimmer for them to eat.

Fortunately I have a flocked based mostly on heat tolerant birds. The odd thing is that the three buff orpingtons and four cochins seem to be handling the weather better than the Leghorns.

morning okies- 78 already.... i wait till noon to put out the ice jugs, but they sure don't last long- having the ducks next to the chicken run seems to be keeping it cooler for them- i guess all the mud... the banties are handling it better, except my duccle hen who seems to be having a harder time-

spunky, not sure but he is a beauty!

michiele - i think what is really neat with you set up is you used what is on hand- i have had to do that with my banties- and it isn't fancy, but i used what i had on hand- recycling

carl and steph... you sure make it hard! i am fighting myself wanting some of your beauties!

off to feed everyone, have a great day!

Good Morning everyone!

I'm looking forward to one last day of work & the weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have anything planned but it's the weekend so it is all good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

michiele - I love your chicken coop! It's wonderful. The girls look great. If any of them turn our to be boys, please PM me and we'll swap him for a her. I've had several Ameraucanas fool me this season. I have one who is just starting to crow, but he hasn't got a single pointy saddle feather on him.

I have trees loaded with grasshoppers too. Planted about a dozen & maybe 6 have leaves left on them. Think the grasshoppers like them so much because I watering them 2 times a day.
I was just thinking yesterday I have too many rir Roos in my grown out pen. Think I also have 2 or 3 welsummers Roos in there too that need to go. Really considered hatching out sex link chicks, but then however could I get rid of all the Roos?

DH is finishing closing off the lean-to on the barn for a few some of my girls & might get started on some extra space for my new guineas this weekend. Guess we will be out there @ dawn tomorrow am so the heat doesn't beat us down to fast.
